Thanks for the Apple Pay explanation. That's what I understood too, but didn't know if I was missing something.
As for Revolut, I wouldn't be without it. It gives mid market rate whilst travelling abroad with no fees attached. Also, if you buy something from a foreign website, it doesn't charge 1,5% of your final bill like other cards do. Its free... Charging it is super simple. I love it.

Pay by phone is really convenient.
I use Samsung Pay, and it's really nice as I don't have to search for my wallet. Saved me a couple of times I left my wallet at home or in the car as well.
Also, since you authenticate on the phone, you can pay any amount without having to input a PIN on the POS machine so it's true contactless and hassle-free

To me the biggest advantage of Apple Pay is that your credit card details are never transmitted to the merchant by Apple. Rather than spread your details all over the retail / online world with purchases at different merchants only one business has them.
Now, you have to trust Apple, but I trust them a lot more than a mom and pop shop using paypal.

In Swiss fashion, Happy Switzerland Day, so let's talk money.
20 minutes takes a swipe at Revolut. Who doesn't like a little competition, I wonder? https://www.20min.ch/finance/news/st...-Geld-16680307
Because I don't allow ads, no copy/paste article from me, but the gist of the article is that a man, Michael, transferred 100 francs from Revolut into his Swiss account, and only 88 francs arrived. Revolut responded that since June 1st the partner banks levy fees on the money in Switzerland. These fees are charged to the recipient account. The question is, are these fees in set amount/transfer, i.e. same 12 francs for very large amounts, or is it a percentage?

Maybe Revolut could make it clear how to avoid costs but this charge isn't the fault of Revolut. I transfer money back and forth from Revolut to CHF account and am never charged... transfer CHF100... CHF100 arrives.

| | Re: Multi Currency Credit Card ["Revolut"]
Came across this from reading some of the comments from the 20 Min. article: https://twitter.com/revolutbank?lang=de
Revolut also only score 2.8 rating out of 5 stars (from 320 reviews so far) on google maps. 2.8(320) https://www.google.ch/maps/place/Rev...258565!9m1!1b1
There are dozens of people who have given a 1-star rating and most with comments that they have been scammed, lost money, blocked or had their cards cloned. Some of the things that I read were very worrying. Customer service not replying for hours, day or even weeks. People unable to access their money, salaries, owners unable to pay their employees from their Revolut business accounts. All in all an utter shambles and totally unacceptable. Revolut clearly are disorganized and can't cope.
I also read that inside of Revolut call/contact centres, mobbing is rife and there is a toxic work atmosphere with a very high staff turnover rate. I don't want to be supporting something like that.
We used to use Revolut. However it seems to have gone downhill fast and no longer do.
We would advise anyone not to use it as their main/current account and definitely not to keep large amounts of money with them.
Revolut fees have steadily increased over time also.
As for what happened to the person in the article, I think that it is not just about the 12 francs lost and that Revolut bluntly refuse to refund. It is the fact that Revolut advertise the service as being free, or free from any fees and the fact that the user in question was not informed in advance that the fee would be charged.
This happened to me at one point on a credit card top up. It was shown as being free, but afterwards there was a charge (this was back when there were some top-up charges). I had to query it several times with different agents to get the fee back. It was not a question of the amount of money, it was the fact that it was not clear/transparent/mentioned in any way before deciding to top up.
And yes actually, it is also the fact that they are inflexible and simply don't want to refund charges.

It looks like the Swiss IBAN has just disappeared (also checked with several colleagues with Revolut accounts)
Edit: according to Revolut support this is because we aren't resident in Switzerland (frontaliers), despite valid work permits and in one case a Swiss passport.

My Swiss colleague got a message from technical support saying that the Swiss IBAN was only visible temporarily because of a technical error, but then he has only had an account a few days.

I have been notified today that local Swiss account is gone. Only Swift payment or international one is available. Which means bank could charge extra fee to transfer CHF from Swiss bank to our revolut. |

I spoke too soon, today it was removed I was given the same "in app" message about disabling access to local Swiss account details.
After a brief chat with Revolut it seems in short if you have a UK address listed in the app then you will be able to make online purchases… many verifications check the billing address post code. BUT you will not be able to have a Swiss IBAN.
If you have a Swiss address and can prove it then you can have a Swiss IBAN but many verifications for card transactions will fail. At least they do for me in Zug (6300).
Sucks… So I will switch back to Transferwise Borderless for CHF and just use Revolut for € and £…

I've used Revolut for a couple of months now and am super happy with it! It does exactly what I need it to do and I have already saved a lot of money in commissions and lousy exchange rates from my Swiss credit cards.

Here's my situation: I need to pay for an online course around 1.5k USD. I can pay either by bank transfer or credit card. Since the course provider's bank is based in USA, i thought paying by either way will incur a lot of fees. So, i was thinking either Revolut or Transferwise. That being said, would you recommend Transferwise? What would be the fees?
Other than that, i usually need euros. Based on this article from the thepoorswiss Revolut seems to have zero fees compared to Transferwise |

So what is new? Does this mean that you will incur charges transferring money to Revolut, but the card will work in third countries as in the past.
Just like in the beginning.

The easiest way to avoid this charge (as before and as detailed in other posts) is to top up CHF via a CHF transfer from TransferWise Borderless. No fees, just a bit of hassle...

Transfers from my account to Transferwise takes less than 4 hours, and topping up Revolut from Transferwise is instant.
