| | Still not received the tax decision, normal?
Hi.
This year we submitted the tax declaration as usual in March.
Until now, we have not received the decision from fisc, while in the last years we usually received it already in summer.
Just about one month ago we received a letter asking for a few more documents, and we sent the documents as requested.
Is this normal? We are approach the end of year, and in Jan they will already send out bills for next year based on the decision of this year...

I still haven't received the one filed last year, let alone this year!
No bills, either.

Last week I received (all in one go) my final assessments for tax years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014!

We also had not received ours. O/H went to the Gemeinde tax office to inquire, and found it had been "overlooked" - they posted it to us the next week.
Better to make sure one receives it yearly otherwise they could just keep "forgetting" and you get one huge shock when they all come together at once! That has happened to us before too.

Perfectly normal. I had to wait 2 years once, although normally I get it within 6 months.
Apparently, in Zürich at least, they don't have a first in first out system but dossiers are picked at random from the input queue, so you could theoretically get a late submission processed immediately or an early submission taking forever.
Of course if you do submit ahead of the rush, the chances are high your submission will be processed ahead of the rush. But if yours hasn't been started yet when the rsuh begins, you lose any bonus of early submission.

I received a letter with a decision, I am due some money back from last years taxes (paid into 3rd pillar).
I wasn't sure if I needed to send them a letter or anything so I just called and they said they will send the money to the bank account shortly...
Was surprisingly fast so I'm happy... I heard stories that it can take years.

It's the decision that can take long, especially if you're declaring complicated stuff and its not immedaitely obvious to them what you're doing. When things are not clear I sometimes include a cover letter explaining my thinking. This saves them having to get back to me.

For me last year it was simple, probably why it was quick. Thanks

PWC advised me as follows on my first tax assessment:
"The tax authorities can take a few months up to 2 years to issue the tax assessments."

ZH took 2-3 years to finalise one of my returns.
SH was much quicker, getting something back in less than a week.

When I leave Switzerland in Septeber 2016, I plan to keep my bank account going /active for six months. But not sure how I organise paying tax owed once the account is closed. Also will only have post forwarded to uk for 12 months.
So let's say I leave in September 2016 , complete tax form following year.
Deloitte (company pays for service ) submit form in September 2017 , I get demand for payment 6 to 24 months later
My company stops tax at source , but I always end up owing more. Not an issue , If demand gets to me and I have a mechanism to pay ie bank account in CH
Oh well that's there problem not mine |
