Switzerland - Euro account and maestro card

Good day,

Is it possible to open an Euro account and have an Euro Maestro / Debit Card here in Switzerland?

Thanks,

Re: Switzerland - Euro account and maestro card

You can certainly have an account in Euros, most banks will offer this. Whether the cards would be Euros too I don't know. Check the websites: UBS, PostFinance, Credit Suisse, your local cantonal bank, etc. Most will have English if you don't speak a Swiss language.

Re: Switzerland - Euro account and maestro card

I have a euro account with UBS but I don't think I can withdraw from it using the card and in any case any cash withdrawal has a 1% fee attached to it.

Re: Switzerland - Euro account and maestro card

Yes, you can have a postcard in euros and withdraw in euros from your euro account. the postcard, now called postfinance card, is like a maestro, abroad it's only usable for cash withdrawal.
Other banks may offer similar solutions, check withdrawal fees (usually 5 CHF abroad).
