Problem with US tax preparation

Has anyone else had a negative experience with Patrick Evans from US tax practice?

http://www.ustaxpractice.com/

I found him online and am really regretting not having gone with someone who came personally recommended. He just plain blew off the US tax deadlines. It was bizarre. Long story short, he now is trying to charge us the full amount he quoted us for tax preparation after having not done our taxes.

I'm not sure what you mean about having totally blown off the US tax deadlines? As someone who lives abroad, you get an automatic two-month extension without even asking for it (so your tax return isn't due until June 15), and a six-month extension is granted without any need for justification by either 1) making a partial payment against your current liability or 2) filing a form 4868.

In any case, my experience is that none of the expat tax preparers work to the April 15 deadline. Most work towards a June 15 deadline, and I routinely file for a six-month extension so I can receive my definitive CH tax liability before I file my US return.

Before you go too far in criticizing, it's worth double-checking that there hasn't been a simple misunderstanding.

PS - I've also had good experiences with Greenback (as recommended above)

That was exactly the problem. We were required to file by the April 18th deadline.

To clarify, our circumstances required us to file by April 18th. (Yes, it is unusual). The reason I am writing here is to do some research and try to find out if anyone else has had this kind of problem with this particular company before I decide how to move forward.

Re: Problem with US tax preparation

I had a lot of problems with Patrick Evans preparing my tax return this year.

He made a bunch of mistakes, both large and small and in general provided bad service.
Also his pricing is opaque.

Kind of.

He was recommended to me by my colleague, so I did not think about checking Englishforum at that time.

And today I had unrelated question about taxes and noticed his ad at the first page.
