Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

I had another call few days ago from them...this time not the vomit inducing Charles jonas-smyth... same blurb so partly scripted read sheet. Yes I have heard of your company. You are the dodgy feckers that have been investigated and national newspapers warn against you.. he hung up.

Are DeVere related to Belgravia Group who are trying to get me to put my SIPP into QROPS on a weekly basis?
This one? It's not listed in the Swiss commercial registry. A company of that name, incorporated in November 2015, is listed with Companies House but not on the UK financial services register. The website is registered anonymously.

That sounds like a made-up name!

Caution ⚠ .. the amazingly shady deVere group are blindly touting for business again.

Thousands of financial pages with warnings about deVere group practices.

I had a few calls this week and today the guy seemed put out after being bluntly told no, not a chance, not interested.

Hopefully the message will get through not to bother calling.

Ah if everything would be so simple in life my little Padawan. A radical thought would be to use different phone numbers 😨

With Swisscom one just blocks the number. What could be more simple

Once again.. different numbers so explain how you block them all without knowing where the call originated from?

They are devious liars .. They use LinkedIn to see where I work, they call switchboard and claim to be a colleague - info also gathered from LinkedIn .. They use colleagues names etc.

We can't possibly tell switchboard to block unknown numbers or vet people with security questions.. So they get through.

The key thing is to get the message out there. These are cheats and liars who are offering to look after your money for you, asking you to trust them with your pension.
What could possibly go wrong.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

Yes its a problem when they use different numbers. As long as the number is not an anonymous ( unbekannt ) number I simply block it in the list of calls.( customer service centre on homepage Swisscom )Or with the new HD telephones from Swisscom its done simply by pushing a button. One can block up to 50 numbers.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

I fell for their trap 2 years ago and only got to pay a Swiss Life life insurance in the end with the minimum amount possible, i.e. 150 a month.

They never bothered me ever since but I guess it's just a matter of time? I didn't know they had such a bad reputation. Does anyone know how to get rid of them once and for all (namely, kill the "contract")? I don't have anything signed from them (no branded paper) which is strange... am I in danger?

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

More devious methods used by this scam of a company (I see lots of older threads I remembered here in EF on the subject are now long gone).

Today they called the front desk of the firm I currently work for (I can only assume they found again via LinkedIn as it is the only place it is listed) and asking for a message to be sent for me asking for me to call back to arrange a meeting. Not giving any further details, those on the front desk, assuming it was work related, of course took the message and passed it on to me.

Avoid these Scammers at all cost

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

I work at a large corporation in Zug. A representative of this company with an English accent phoned me at work last summer (probably lied to get passed reception).

He arranged a meeting for a month from the date he called. I knew there was something dodgy so I provided a wrong personal phone number and email to him but told him to re-confirm before the meeting. I did not have any interest in their services so I planned to tell him this when he phoned me at work again to re-confirm. He never phoned back and I forgot about it.

The month passed and sure enough got a call from reception. Some guy had come on site to speak with me without confirming the meeting. He tried to make a connection by saying his father was the same nationality as me. When I explained how I expected there to be a confirmation about the meeting and that I was not interested he got really annoyed and asked if I realised he "came all the way from Basel this morning". He then hung up the phone.

I felt really bad about this at the time so I'm glad to know that they are dodgy.

To be fair if it happens again I would just tell them immediately you're not interested and get rid of them.

I'm not so sure. Maybe if their time is wasted enough they might give up. And the time it takes them to get from Basel to Zug and back is time they aren't trying to con someone else.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

As others have pointed out, they often use LinkedIn or other social networks to find out where you work, then call the main office number (because they don't have my direct line). Our receptionists are fairly smart to these guys and I've instructed them to always ask who's calling and from which company before passing on calls. Most of the time these guys won't say who they working for, claiming it's a personal financial matter. My bank counsellor has my direct line and there's no reason for any other person to speak to me on "personal financial matters", so effectively they're getting filtered by our switchboard operators.

Hi,

have not read the thread as I am at work and quite busy; however did want to report immediately that I just recieved a call from an English speaker called Xavier (calling from DeVere). The call was short and polite (as I said to them, I knew who they were, and due to where I work, did not need any financial advice at all) on both sides - I was to the point, and did not allow him to waffle.

So people, please be careful out there.
Hi All,

They are unfoerunately still around. In the last couple of days onc checked my LinkedIn profile, and lo and behold I get a call form them. Luckily for me I was busy so missed the unrecognised call, but later I threw it into Google and the first hit was "Contact Us - deVere Switzerland".

The number is now black-listed so I am safe(r), but thought I'd stop by to mention it here.

Be safe out there!

Our office had a fresh onslaught around April time and it was lovely watching our steadfast and mild-mannered receptionist get progressively more and more short with them as the calls went on...

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

Not heard from them for a while.

I did on two occasions actually get around to face to face meetings (I never pass on an opportunity to hone my trolling skills, Billag alone is too easy). I never had any intention of investing a single rappen, but they seem amazingly inept at spotting that. In the meetings I remained polite but asked tough questions and despite promising to come back with answers to my questions they never did.
