Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

They called me yesterday on my work line. I work for a very large company and they often have representatives from insurance companies on site, so I believed the spiel the guy gave and thought this was normal.

The appointment is in two weeks time. I had no intention of buying anything from the advisor anyway (I tend to be very slow when it comes to trusting people with my pension funds!) but I'm very glad I did some googling yesterday evening about this racket. Thanks EF!

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

An article from May this year which seems to cover a lot of angles, including a possible explanation for why some cold callers are so persistent!

Wherever British expats with money are, DeVere is near – but US is probing its tactics

I received another call today, this time it was a guy from the Swiss Global Group. Again wanting me to meet with his boss who visits my company's office regularly. He was at pains to highlight that that the meeting is merely to advise, not to sell anything and that they are a FINMA registered company.

Their website shows a FINMA number of 32394 but when I search that number I get a company called Swiss Global Investments, which only registered in April of this year.

Perhaps they are genuine but between the cold calling and the fact that several people working for them also worked at another well known scam company (based off LinkedIn), it was enough to put me off.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

Oh I got another one last night, same as a few months ago, at around 01:30, with a 00221 number and a female voice: "Hellow I pat yu shroo to aur fiiinazal direkgtor." HOO BOY was I going to have me some fun here, they called me on my creditless prepaid mobile and I remember all the nice things suggested from our EF brethren and cistern. Things like: "Oh good that you called, I have just got an inheritance and I was wondering where to invest" you know, that kind of stuff. I strung them on for about five to ten minutes before they cottoned on.

Then *Click* and that without a goodby.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

I've just been cold-called about 3 times in the last week by a company called ILM. Each time from different phone numbers, so they're presumably spoofing the numbers they call from. Curiously they're direct dialling me, not going through my switchboard. My direct number isn't top secret, but isn't widely publicized either, and isn't on any social media pages.
The guys didn't waste any time and went straight into requesting details of any UK pension I might have. I hauled in the reigns and suggested they might present who they were before I divulged any private financial information about myself. The first guy then hung up on me.
The second guy did say who they were, though I've never heard of them. I then asked if the company had a licence to offer financial services in Switzerland. He claimed they did. I then told him that I was making a formal request to be removed from their databases and this was confirmed to me.
If they call again, I'll make a formal request to have all data they have on me and explain I will make a complaint under UK data protection laws if I don't get it.

It’s all true. And worse. deVere have cost me half my pension. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way about the way that they work.
Please contact me if you are/were a customer/victim who was advised to invest in this UAM Strategic Growth Fund.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

Sorry to hear that, Stokie. Have you considered writing to the media? The Daily Mail's This Is Money, including their journalist Tony Hetherington, has done several articles about deVere, e.g. Victory for expat retiree as This is Money gets his pot restored

Here's a follow-up to the Moneyweb article "The world's greatest Ponzi scheme that never was": deVere Group and Nigel Green vs. Moneyweb It seems that deVere did not like part of the article referring to the Strategic Growth Fund and complained to South Africa's press ombudsman but their complaint was dismissed.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

So one down, oodles to go, recently they have opened a segment here on the lovely island of Malta.

https://www.devere-group.com/devere-...S/Default.aspx

Friend of mine works there as, yup you guessed it, a cold caller, doesn´t talk too much about it, but thinks that all the evasive action from their "potential clients" is cute, they know all the tricks too and indeed get constant "lessons" on how to deal with people who put them on hold or whistle into the phone or try to get their number cancelled or try to get a free meal. At the end of the day the way he sees it is that it is just another boring 7:00 to 15:30 job.

Maybe they've upped the game in the interim (my last contacts with them are several years back) but I never had the impression they were particularly well trained or prepared outside of a rather narrow sales script.

Re: DeVere group cold calling again.

deVere Group is the subject of a couple of recent blog entries by a former dodgy lawyer who apparently now advises law enforcement.
Is St Lucia's CBI program at risk, due to dodgy financial advisory-turned private bank?
Dominica's banking regulator; asleep on duty, or totally corrupt?
