It went to USD 1.09 today.

It was on 'The Wright Stuff' last week that a currency exchange desk at Heathrow was selling GBP 1 = USD 0.97 and buying at GBP 1 = USD 1.30.

I think your mistaken, I don't see it falling to anything near those levels.

Airport currency desks always have absurd spreads, just pay on credit card & let your bank do the f/X the POS exchange rate offered is usually worse.

I know many of you will delight in the news-

but today the Sterling rate has fallen at its lowest ever against the chf.

1 £ = 1.17

we did have 1.18 a couple of years back- but never fallen below that. Ah well there is nought we can do. Time to plough the field to grow more veg and get some chickens and a few lambs - perhaps.

Probably the ECB and Swiss Federal bank will follow the US Fed with rate cuts and the £ will pick up again.

They are looking to promote exports & don't hold much cash so have no reason to artificially pump up the value of the £, in Euros it's still above late summer lows.

Was planning to open my new business when £ got below 1.18 - but there is no point now

as people can't travel. Selling my car and getting in touch with a few farmers to plough up one of the fields to grow veg, and start keeping chickens again. Would love to have some sheep - but not sure that could ever work. They would become pets and then ... ah well. Got to laugh ...honestly, beyond worrying and stressing now, che sera, sera.

Got a place to go back to in the UK- but at the moment, NO WAY JOSE.

If people knew where the bottom was, would there be those ridiculous fluctuations in stock and fx values?

Likely, there's no bottom.

BTW: SNB has their regular monthly monetary policy assessment tomorrow.
That will be interesting.

who is not holding GBP? the UK elites? It could be true but it is immoral to sabotage your own currency (because most average people will be worse off) for personal gain.
