Sorry old mate but you have eaten far too much propaganda

Now look at the EU
the EU Commission has a President (elected)
the EU Parliament has a President (elected)
the EU Council of Europe (the countries) has a President (elected)
the European Court of Justice has a President (elected)

These organisations work together to run the EU; no single one has authority over the other three.
Yesterday one of these entities decided that "the white truffle from Alba shall not be considered a luxury item anymore."

Anyway, it's hard to believe that the EU will have a brighter future with this bureaucracy...

The EU is not in the habit of make random decisions, so can you please provide us with the actual reference to this decision?

Oh please, let's be honest here, any trade agreement where French, Germans, and Italians need to agree on something will take ages, will complicated to understand, and will need 10 times more pages than needed. Put US, UK, AUS or CAN (not the Québécois of course ) on a table and I'm sure the problem will be solved more quickly.
Right. That's why the US tax code (federal level alone) contains 10'000'000 words. It has grown by 150% in length since 1975, from 4mln words to 10mln today. And that doesn't even include case law that is often crucial.

Agreed, however this does not take away for the fact that the costs are rising and with margins being so tight in the food industry, soon or later the customer will be hit with higher prices. These days even home produced goods involve some imported inputs.

So, you are basically saying that the $$$ per capita for a manufacturing job is the same figure as for a services job...
Actually manufacturing jobs on average are typically higher payers than service sector jobs.

i quite enjoy watching these battles between large corporates. does channel power trump brand power or vice versa.

it reminds me of the penguin/puffin dispute back in the 1990s:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/pe...s-1273690.html

let's see how easy it will be for Tesco to substitute alternative products...

well if the other supermarkets also refuse the price increase, or were never given a price increase then this will get very messy very quickly for unilever.

Been saying this to friends in the UK since the referendum was announced. Even said as much on this forum back in May...

I'm imagining a entire country going from having Tesco Extra and ASDA Superstores to having Migros in terms of size, stock, variety and prices.

Loads of ingredients of UK products are imported and the slump in the value of GBP is Worldwide, so all the prices will have to increase sooner or later. I noticed it myself last month with prices already up on all basic items, and my usual weekend shop was only marginally cheaper than in Switzerland.

What nobody is mentioning at the moment is that store 'own brands' will also be affected once their current contracts with major amnufacturers, like Unilever, expire.

Too right!

I went from 15yrs in the food production industry to 11yrs in the service industry. 2yrs ago, my former colleagues in food production were on about 20% more than me, and had more access to overtime but were facing redundancy, which finally happened earlier this year.

Weirdly and sadly, in January this year, my former teams in both food production and the service industry were both made redundant.

The low GBP will give a boost to domestic farmers and producers perhaps creating a shift from import to domestically produced/sourced.

Unilever accounts in Euros, so every sale made in £ is a loss to them

Takes at least that long to actually grow any additional stuff. This year's harvest is already done and there's no making any more of it at this point.

At the moment seems to be having the opposite effect
