Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

hello Everyone,

i just had on 6th December 2016 a transferwise money transfer to Asia whit my Creditcard.

before sending the Money i needed, which was CHF100 or CHF150 depending on rate and fee.

at first i typed the amount of CHF100 to see how much this will be in recipient currency but when i proceeded to the next step:
-> the system shows me CHF1000 as the Amount to be send.

-> surprised i was, i cancelled it and went back to verified if this was my mistake, then i realyzed the amount i need to send is exactly the correct one mention (CHF100)

then receive a cancellation mail from Transferewise the same times

Hi Xxxxxx,

This is to confirm that transfer #12598233 (1000 CHF to KRW) has been cancelled.
Just wanted to give things a try? No problem - come back anytime you want to send money!
Got any questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions: https://transferwise.com/support

Best Regards,
Team TransferWise.

-> then i tried a second times to see again if iam the one doing the mistake
-> this times i typed the same amount again CHF 100 and proceeded:

same thing happened again showing me CHF 1000 i cancelled it again and went back to veryfied if i was the one doing the mistake

Hi Xxxx,

This is to confirm that transfer #12598268 (1000 CHF to KRW) has been cancelled.
Just wanted to give things a try? No problem - come back anytime you want to send money!
Got any questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions: https://transferwise.com/support

Best Regards,
Team TransferWise.

->third times i tried again whit the same amount CHF100 and the same thing happened again showing we higer amount then what i really want to send and tiped initialy
->I then proceeded this time, thinking this is certainly an intern information for the System or a Mistake from Transferewinse and my initial Amount should be taking in consideration but this wasnt the case after finishing the transaction i received this Mail from Transferwise:

Hi Xxxxx,

We’ve received your money and will soon start your transfer

There's nothing else you need to do. Next, we will convert your funds and transfer the payment to your recipient shortly.

You can view the status of your transfer online.

->This times they dont mention how much i hve send and the amount my recipient will receive

-> my recipient received a mail saying that she will receive exactly CHF991,46 in her local currency in Asia.

Knowing the amount she had to receive she told me there´s a mistake because the moey is too much

-> Furious i contacted Transferwise:

Hello Xxxxx,

Thank you for getting in touch with us on chat earlier.
My colleague tried to give you a call, as you requested, but could sadly only reach your voicemail.

Both your payment #12598268 and #12598233 have been cancelled before we received the money to complete them. Your payment #12598315 has been completed, and the KRW has been transferred to your recipient as you requested when you created the payment.
When you create your payment on your TransferWise profile, you can enter the amount you want to send to your recipient in the top white box of the currency converted, by default this is set to 1000 but you can change the amount if you want to send a different amount to your recipient.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please feel free to get back in touch with us. My colleagues and I would be happy to help.
Kind regards,
Diane

Iam so dissapointed i will never ever use TRANSFERWISE

do any one had the same experience ?

Kind regard

Apparently OP wants 100 CHF exchanged to KRW and sent to Korea. Three times 1'000 CHF were sent instead.

Twice OP cancelled successfully, all dandy. The 3rd time s/he let it run despite noticing the wrong amount but now is furios because what s/he instructed actually is what actually happened.

Could this be yet another case of PEBCAK?

Apparently after explaining step by step everything I did during the transaction, some people still don't understand!

->Me, at first , trying to transfer CHF100 whit my credit card.

Transferwise trying to book CHF1000 instead of CHF100

->Me, cancelled transaction & go back and verified everithing if I did a typing Mistake but no, it's shows me CHF 100.

->Me, second times, I tried again typing CHF100

Transferwise trying again for the second times to book CHF1000 instead of CHF100

->Me, cancelled second times the transaction, because aim not trying to send CHF1000
but CHF100

-> Me, third times tried again typing CHF 100 but still TRANSFERWISE shows
me CHF1000

-> Me, this times continued the transaction thinking and hoping it's an internal systems failure from Transferwise...

After few hours my recipient told me that I made a mistake the amount i send was too much.

->Me, become sad because I feel someone trying to play whit my mind

-> Reason why I registered in here to find out, share my experience and prevent anyone from getting in the same trap

thanks for beeing able to understand

Kind regards

Re: Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

Sorry to hear what happened, I used transferwise couple of times and never had a problem. You need to go through various steps where you confirm the final amount to be sent, comission and amount to be received on the destination. If I understand what you are saying, on all those steps you clearly stated 100CHF but eventually transferwise sent 1000?

Re: Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

With KRW it's very easy to be off by a factor of ten. My guess is that OP simply miscalculated the sum that is to arrive.

Re: Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

Something like... the minimum transfer amount is 1000 CHF, and they have a clunky user interface error that will silently (sort of) correct your entry from 100 to 1000 to indicate this?

Re: Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

And why do you class this as a scam? A scam would mean that your money vanished in thin air, which clearly is not the case.

Transferwise simply transferred the amount of money you instructed them to transfer (whereas you assumed it was just "an internal systems failure").

Instead, you should have contacted Transferwise before you actually transferred the money. Or not use Transferwise at all if it didn't allow you to transfer the amount you wanted, instead of assuming it was a system failure.

Re: Bad experience Transferwise using Creditcard (SCAM)

From the response received from TFW to the OP, it seems they confirm that 1k CHF is the DEFAULT amount they put in, which one needs to actively change otherwise 1k will be sent if by default.

Interesting User Interface design decision

However I would expect TFW support to be capable of editing/recalling the transaction and letting the OP know that they will be credited the 900 CHF difference. (Assuming one can get through at this busy time of year).

It looks like from the FCA website that they're regulated in the UK for payments with passporting arrangements to EEA countries under the Payments Directive including Liechtenstein but not Switzerland. That might present an angle for the OP when contacting them.

You still sent the payment the third time even though it clearly stated on-screen it was sending 1000chf, thinking "it must be a mistake"? Use your brain, it said 1000chf on the screen!

It seems like you just didn't correctly change the amount to 100chf in the end.

Awful? A company that does what a customer asks them to do is in my book a good service. And they do this for less profit than yours. I'd be wise if you would switch to them instead of the other way around.
