Tax Return Requirements

Does anyone know how long you need to complete a Swiss Tax Return after leaving Switzerland?

What is the impact on this is you retain bank accounts in Switzerland, rather than closing them down on departure.

Thanks

Easiest is probably to contact the Steueramt in Schaffhausen, they are quite helpful.

Whether you can keep the bank account open also depends on your nationality (and there will be extra cost)

The tax office usually requires a deposit, possibly above your liability so ASAP.

Very little.

Re: Tax Return Requirements

a small thing to consider is that it will take up to 2 years or so for the outcome of your last tax return to arrive (once you leave CH)..so you may need a bank account for that open.
as was already said, having them open can be ridiculously costly even if you dont move money (i found this to be a helpful link which broadly applies also to non-swiss living abroad (needs only minimal german) http://aso.ch/de/beratung/leben-im-ausland/banken)

Not from what I heard from colleagues who left the country. If you leave to another country, your tax return will be processed pretty fast and not have the regular waiting times.

And if you don't, 4+ years is realistic.

Now that is correct although my longest "wait" was only 2,5 years or so

went to my Gemeinde and asked and the lady was very open and said it usually takes years as it first goes to the Kanton and only then after many months goes back to the Gemeinde, who ultimately do the calculations & checks..

When I left the country I had an appointment with the tax department and we did it right there, on the spot.
A number of assumptions were made, always to my benefit.

So my tax was finalised around 3 days before departure.

I kept the accounts open however for many years following...
