Tax Filing and Remote Work

Evening all,

Does anyone know what type of obligations there are in terms of Swiss tax filing when working remote while living in Switzerland and paying full taxes in the country where the employer is based, for example, Canada.

Is there no requirement to disclose if the salary is less than 120K CHF?

I believe the Canadian tax rate is higher than Switzerland so would there be no impact on gross family tax filings in Switzerland?

You are liable for taxes here because you live here. Canada may/should give you some kind of rebate, but you owe the Swiss taxes and must file.

Re: Tax Filing and Remote Work

I have the same situation as the OP and have an ancillary question. My spouse is the primary work visa holder for CH and I will be working remotely for my company back in USA with no direct work in CH.

Does anyone know if I will also need a CH work permit or will the dependent residence permit suffice?

Thank you!

Depends what type of permit your spouse will have. If an L permit then I'm not sure you'd be able to work as her dependent. If it's a B permit then you need to inform the gemeinde about your work and they'll tell you if it's possible. Remote working info is a bit scarce here on the forum. This is the best thread I've found.

Thank you!! (I don't have enough posts to officially thank you yet!)

It is a B permit. I'll post my experience when all said and done so there is current info.

according to my understanding, there is nothing like "remote working" from a tax/employment perspective. the OP will be working in Switzerland and will be taxable (and don't forget social security contributions) in Switzerland. Because he is salaried in the home country, there will be double taxation.
