p2p lending

Hi all,
recently I came across some swiss web sites for p2p lending,
they match investors with borrowers.
The interest rates go from 4% to 8%.
I don't really get how someone in Switzerland can ask for a loan at 8% interest, being the normal bank rates very low in this period, is it a scam or am I missing something?

thanks all

Mike

What about the people the bank is not willing to lend to as they have no assets, are a start up?

Yes, you're missing that those very low bank rates are for mortgages. If borrower defaults, the bank can take his house. If you ask for an unsecured loan expect 5-10% from the banks too. 10% is the legal maximum for consumer loans.
