Re: Question regarding Fundsmith

Taking the reins of a pension pot for the first time – and setting a clear return target – is a brave thing to do.

Olly Scott, 43, from Oxford, took the plunge in July this year, switching his £175,000 pension pot out of tracker funds chosen by his pension provider and into a broker account with Interactive Investor to manage himself.

He owns 25 investments, ranging from actively managed funds to specialist passive strategies and investment trusts, which earn an income from song royalties. So far his portfolio has risen 4pc, but he is hoping for much more: his aim, with 25 years until retirement, is for his pot to reach £1m, while adding around £14,000 a year to it.

“The goal is simple: to actively manage the portfolio once or twice a year and build a substantial pot to fund my retirement,” he said.

“The fund choices are there to grow my money via the stock-picking prowess of Baillie Gifford and Fundsmith, as well as to back British businesses. I also hold around 15pc in stocks, which I think will do well, such as payments group Wise and cyber security firm Darktrace.”

I certainly hope it makes him a millionaire as BG and FS is exactly what I own...

The "experts" have suggested buying a load of British value stocks, financials and general junk.

All it says to me is that both ‘experts’ reviewing the portfolio don’t really know what they’re talking about.

Better than Bogdan B who comments on every article claiming to have a 2000% return on his companies drawn largely from the ftse100 in 12 years (Bullcrap) and who claims fundsmith is going to collapse

For UK account holders you need to re register online.

Leave out the Postcode & it should work!

If I do that, I get the warning-

Only UK-based debit cards or UK bank accounts can be used for investment purposes
I guess you have all that, me not

Re: Question regarding Fundsmith

Sounds like FS dealt with this reasonably, even giving £350 compensation on top of the £2.5k Barclays gave. The customer is up £350 on the deal

In this day and age you shouldn't be using a cheque. People need to understand that.

I have *never* written one, and I came of age 15 years ago almost to the day.

Especially for an amount over £10,000. Why they could not do a Bank transfer as Fundsmith would do beats me.

Cheques are still important in Malta where a stamp costs 30c & a the Bank charges 1 euro for an internet transfer below €1,000 & €4 euro above.
In France daily transfer limits are very low €3k a day, €6k a week with most Banks although HSBC will do 10k a day 20k a week.
