Leaving Switzerland - Swiss pension retrieval as EU passport holder

I know this is a much-discussed topic on this forum and I have looked through many of the threads. I apologize if I have missed one that answers this question but this seems very specific.

I am looking for someone who knows anything about holding an EU passport but leaving to live outside of the EU and receiving their Swiss pension contributions before retirement.

I have worked in Switzerland for one year and will be leaving in July to live in Canada. I have Dutch and New Zealand citizenship and am a Permanent Resident of Canada (Canada is my home, and New Zealand is where I grew up). From what I understand I probably can't get a pension payout or transfer because I have Dutch citizenship (it trumps NZ citizenship in this situation). Is there anyone here who has an EU passport and has moved out of the EU and has successfully transferred or received a payout of their Swiss pension contributions? What about if you purchase your first house abroad?

I cannot forsee that I will be living in Switzerland again so I am pretty sure my meager one-year pension contribution is just going to slowly disappear because it will be another 33 years before I am eligible and from what I can tell I will probably be dinged for taxes every year.

I have never lived in the Netherlands, nor do I have a bank account or an insurance number there. I am not eligible for old age pension in the Netherlands because I have never lived or worked there.

This is a long shot because I know the Swiss like to follow their strict rules, but are there ever any exceptions for this? Also, does anyone have any suggestions about how I might be able to get this pot of money through transfer, cash reimbursement or investment in a home (abroad), rather than waiting 33 years?

Thank you very much for the help!

You should be able to get the full amount. I got half moving to the UK with an EU passport.

Thanks for the reply! This is good news.
Do you remember how you did this? I had one person say to me they would always honor the Dutch passport over any other I have but I have not actually applied for the reimbursement yet.
Did you just go ahead and fill out the form asking for the reimbursement, or did you have to do something different?

Thanks,

It's simple enough, contact your pension provider and send them the documents they need.

"What you need to do

Contact the pension fund you paid into with your last employer or the vested benefits institution where you have an account or a policy. Notify them of your departure from Switzerland and provide them with the necessary documents."

Not sure about the mandatory part, but you can ask here:

Thanks for the response. I have seen this information and this I have the forms I need. The issue is I called the Swiss compensation office to ask what will happen with my pension and this is where I received the information that regardless of where I move to it will stay in Switzerland until my retirement age because I have a Dutch passport. So I just wanted information from folks on this forum to see if they've experienced anything different.

Most people don't know the rules. It largely depends on where you move rather than what your nationality is (for pillar 2, Pillar 1 is stuck here if you have an EU passport)

Who is your fund with? Just fill the form out on their website and you're laughing.

It's even possible to get the full amount when moving to a EU country with EU passport. Unfortunately I didn't qualify for the mandatory part. Hopefully after Brexit I will.

Well, I don't know if contacting this organisation would help or not.

Mostly about moving to an EU/EFTA country, but they may be able to advise you.

Thank you both very much for your help. I am much more optimistic now than this morning after my phone call with Swiss authorities.
