Swiss tax identification number

Hi everyone, I am italian living in Switzerland since 1 year, with regular job, rent contract, B permit.

I have been asked to self-declare on a form from the bank my Swiss Identification Number (NIF or TIN).
Reading some past threads it seems to be matching with the AVS number. As the information sources don't always seem to be too "confident", I am writing to ask if you could kindly confirm / not confirm if the N.AVS is definetely the Tax Identification number the the form is requiring.

My sources are:
https://www.englishforum.ch/permits-...itzerland.html
https://www.englishforum.ch/finance-...on-number.html

Many thanks in advance

Re: Swiss tax identification number

indeed - but the format is different and the only format that matched what they were asking for was the AVS. i'm pretty sure they don't use it for anything anyway.

I gave my bank in the UK my AVS number, which they seemed happy with. They just want a number that identifies you as a resident and taxpayer in Switzerland.

Since January 1st 2017 the AHV-13 (can also be found on your health insurance card) act as the TIN in Switzerland.

Defined in Art. 2 Abs. 1 Lit. f of the AIAG (Federal act on automatic exchange of tax information)
https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...665/index.html

I was in a similar situation to yours. It is definitely the AVS number that they want.

Re: Swiss tax identification number

The EU has TIN numbers- they do not exist in Switzerland. Try and explain that to the UK !?! such a pain- and we have to keep explaining again and again... grrr.

So now we send our NE tax number, with a note explaining re TIN not being valid- we still get documents back to re-do again...

We've never had a problem. They've always accepted the AVS number without any problem.

That's because you need to send in your AHV/AVS number as explained here: https://www.englishforum.ch/2812534-post8.html

Re: Swiss tax identification number

And just in case @CBGeneve 's link ever breaks, it is summarised as:

The TIN or OASI Number for individuals is (depending on your language) [AHV-Versichertennummer; numéro d’assuré AVS; numero d’assicurato AVS]).

Quote:
It consists of an initial 3-digit country code
(Switzerland = 756), a 9-digit random number which provides a lifelong, unique and anonymous
identification to each person, and a final check digit. For better readability, each block is separated
from the other by a dot. The structure of the OASI Number can be modelled as follows:
756.1234.5678.97
