Relocating to CH for studying: how can I keep working for current employer?

Hello All,

I am an EU citizen, working in the Netherlands, and I am planning on moving to Zurich for studying.

Currently, I've got a very flexible employment contract with my current employer, whom would be willing to offer me a contract for working remotely from Switzerland.

I'm interested under what construction would it be possible for me then to get paid by this Dutch employer? My residency will be in Switzerland.

Thing is, as far as I've read, I can only be registered as a freelancer if I earn more than CHF50.000 a year, which, next to studying, I won't. Is this true? Are there different types of freelancing possibilities?

Thanks so much for your help in advance!

Cheers,
wudler

You won't need a freelancer permit as such because as an EU citizen your study permit will entitle you to work next to your studies as much as you please.

So basically, I suppose the easiest option would be to just have your boss pay you into your normal Dutch bank account and transfer money from that into Switzerland as you need it.

This has been covered before. If you are resident in CH, then you must pay taxes and social contributions here. If you can register as self-employed, then that's the way to go. Otherwise, there's a process (don't recall the name) where you hand over to the authorities your tax and social deductions from that, as an employee. Either way, your employer/client pays you gross - no deductions.

Thank you @chomp and @NotAllThere,

I have to change my residency from Dutch to Swiss, and by Dutch laws I cannot stay on a Dutch payroll.

Sorry if this has come up before already - I haven't found it in my searches, could you perhaps point me to the right thread? Especially this process that you are referring to sounds more interesting to me, as I understand being self-employed as running your own business, requiring a plan and a certain income. I merely want to work part-time as an employee.

Do you think that payroll companies be helpful to me in this case? My employer billing the payroll company, and me being an "employee"/"consultant" of this company. I've never come across this idea before so I don't know whether this is really how they work.
