How to declare an ownership of an apartment that hasn't been built yet

Dear EFs,
We bought an apartment (our future primary residence) that is part of a building project, which should be finished end of 2018, maybe beginning of 2019. We signed contract and made a downpayment in November 2016.
How do I account for this in the 2016 tax declaration?
Thank you in advance for any helpful feedback!

Your downpayment on the dwelling would be an asset to you and should be recorded on your tax return. Until your home is complete, the downpayment could be declared under: "30.6 Übrige Vermögenswerte; nähere Bezeichnung: "Bauvertrag Zahlung" "

Unless your deposit came from a gift or inheritance, this will be money you already owned and an asset you have previously declared - a mortgage is a liability...
