"Impôt à la source" and filing tax returns in VD

Hi,

This year for the first time I am filing my tax returns in VD. Since I have a B permit, I have already paid taxes on my salary (Impôt à la source).

I am using the VaudTax software. In the revenue section, where I enter the information from my salary statement, it asks for the amount of taxes I have already paid (item 12 in the salary statement).

The problem is that when I look at the summary at the end, it seems that the software ignores this information and the final calculated tax is unaffected by the amount of the taxes I have already paid (i.e. if I change the amount of "Impôt à la source" in revenue section, the final summary does not change).

Is that expected? There are a lot of deductions that I have that would lower my taxes, but since the software ignores the information, it still shows a large positive balance to be paid. In effect, I am being taxed twice!

Is it possible that I am missing something? The only piece of paper I have received from VD about my 2016 taxes is a single page A4 paper with my tax document number. Back in Zurich I used to receive a full set of documents with a folded A3 cover.

I know that this is a last minute question (the deadline to submit the filing is Sept 25th!) but I hope I get some feedback as how to proceed.

That calculation is of taxes owed. Not balance due.

You will get a confirmation when they confirm your declaration with an invoice of what is actually due. You shouldn't pay anything until you get the invoice.

Taxes owed minus taxes paid equals amount due.

Thanks a lot, it makes sense. I guess I am just nervous. Not having received anything from VD besides just a one page letter with a bar code did not help either
