New 10 CHF banknote

The new 10 Franc bill has been unveiled today 10am and will put into circulation on shortly thereafter.
https://snb.ch/en/mmr/reference/pre_...0171011.en.pdf

How does it look see above? That what the unveiling on October 11 2017 was for
All we knew before that was that it will be yellow/organgish and feature a hand holding a conductor baton, a railway tunnel (New Gotthard?), and a clockwork (Orange?). The theme will be "Time/Organisational talent" (for the 20 and 50 it is Light/Creativity and Wind/Experience respectively)

Here all details and design elements explained:
https://snb.ch/en/mmr/reference/nb_1...e/nb_10.en.pdf

Here all the new notes so far next to each other:
https://www.snb.ch/de/iabout/cash/se...series9_design

Here the drafts by Manuela Pfrunder.
https://www.snb.ch/en/iabout/cash/se...ject_result#t3

And here Pfrunder on the deign at the last years conference when the new 50 was introduced:

(https://youtu.be/3v1PyZnVBzg?t=859 at 14:15)

FAQ:
Q: Are the old series 8th 10, 20, and 50 notes still valid and legal tender?
A: Yes. Until further notice by the Swiss National Bank all notes of the series 8 are fully valid and legal tender. Such a notice is expected earliest one year after the last note was introduced.

Q: I am so forgetful, how does/did the series 8 look again?
A: Like this https://www.snb.ch/en/iabout/cash/se...sign_principle

Q: How often does the SNB introduce a new banknote series to the public?
A: Approximately every 20 years.

Q: In what order are the next new notes introduced:
A: Next is the 200 in autumn 2018, then the 1000, and finally the 100 which is the most common one.

Q: And when?
A: Exact date are not known yet. But all should be over by 2019.

Q: What will the other notes feature and what color will they have?
A: The color scheme will stay as is. The main features can be seen here https://www.snb.ch/de/iabout/cash/se...esign_elements

Q: The new notes are ugly as hell!
A: This is not a question.

Q: The new notes are ugly as hell, what can I do?
A: You like coins? I give you one shiny coin for each paper note you give me.

Speaking of coins, am I the only one that fumbles like a fool with the 10, 20 and 50 rappen coins? They're all so similar when you're standing at the kiosk with a queue behind you. I know the 50 has a beveled edge but in the darkest corners of my purse they all look and feel the same.

I've been here more than a decade so it's not like I'm fresh off the boat.

There is no 50 Rappen coin. It's a 1/2 Franc It weights exactly half of a 1 Franc coin, which itself weights half of a 2 Franc coin. All does coin have a standing Helvetia on the reverse side, and as you already know a beveled edge. They have a bi-floral wreath with oak on the left and alpenrose the right hand side.

5, 10 and 20 Rappen have a smooth edge and the head of "Lady Liberty" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertas and spot a mono floral wreath (wine, oak, and alpenrose)

Hope that helps.

Yes, funny funny...

Faffing about studying the bi-floral wreath and comparing the various weights whilst standing at the counter of the Kiosk is probably going to earn me a jab in the ribs with an umbrella from the commuter standing behind me.

Which then begs the question, how do elderly, blind and partially sighted people distinguish between the coins? The 10 and 20 rappen coins are almost indistinguishable in a normal everyday situation (those days when you've not got your magnifying glass and Wikipedia at your fingertips... )

One says 10, and one says 20 on it.

Also, the 20 is larger than the 10.

Wow, one of this pile is worth one 1000chf note!!!

I'd much prefer having the pile than 1 single note, it makes you looks and feel richer

Imagine they were all purple. CHF 900k Or vacuum packed as they are delivered 1M.

Hmm, such a fresh vacuum packed bundle has a certain appeal.

If you did that 1000 CHF as a stack of 5Rp coins - it would be 25m high and weight 36kg !

On of my pairs of jeans has a 5rp sized hole in the pocket - which would be a useful filter if the stupid 1/2 franc coin wasn't almost the same size

Just waiting for a new 12 sided bimetallic franc to make an appearance. For those of you with assets in GBP, don't forget the "round pound" stops being legal tender this coming weekend!
