Temporary, part time employment and 3a

Iíve done a basic search, but not really found the info I need.
Iím currently in a temp contract running August-January.
Can I open a 3a account on this basis?
What happens at the end of the contract? Do I still keep it but just not able to pay anything into it, or do I have to somehow dissolve it?
Iím assuming as it crosses the year, I would be able to pay in both this year and next (although not sure if it would be the full amount).

Since you have to be employed to have a 3a account I can't really see it's worth it for 3 months of payments - or 6 if you back pay.

So what would happen to the account when you are no longer employed?

I guess it sits there doing nothing much until you're employed again or use the money for a deposit on a house or something.

Back pay?

With a pillar 3a bank account you can put in from 0 up to CHF 6768/per year (if you also contribute to pillar 2) You decide. There are no "payments" and the amount is not prorated in case one does not work the whole year. If you miss to pay for a year, you missed it for good. If you are subject to withholding tax and do not file a regular tax declaration you must apply for tax adjustment before around March 31st the year following the payment. See cantonal tax office website for adjustment form and exact filling deadline. If you miss the deadline you will not get any tax benefits!

You can cash in a pillar 3a account in the following in situations:
- 5 years before regular pension age.
- leaving the country.
- investing in real estate where you live yourself.
- starting its own 100% business.
- if one becomes 100% disabled.
