Betting Taxes

Hi all,

So I started betting recently (small sums) and I heard a lot about taxes here in Switzerland....So my question is let's say I make 10K CHF in one year from betting do I have to pay taxes on it? What about 20, 50, 100K ?

Thanks!

Re: Betting Taxes

You have to declare that in your tax income return

Nothing much, unless you already have tons of money (it also depends on where you live in Switzerland)

Re: Betting Taxes

Swiss Cantons choose how to tax gambling. I think London is taxed at source.

Nothing, statistically speaking. The only one winning is the bookmaker.

It will be taxed as income, so exactly the same as if it were e.g. a bonus salary payment (although there you'd have all the other deductions first, of course).

You can't claim tax relief on your losses though.

In the UK betting tax is levied either on the bet, i.e, you pay 10% (or whatever) extra in advance, or on the winnings (the same rate), the choice being made at the time the bet is placed. Anyone choosing the latter clearly doesn't expect to win.
