Re: Filing taxes on B Permit with 3a contribution

Hi folks, I'd appreciate some recommendation on my specific situation:

I'm on B permit and earned close to but under 120K in full year 2018. Live in Zurich city (hence 119% Gemeindesteuerfuss). Quellensteuer was deducted monthly (based on my read-up, the assumption used for Gemeinde tax is an average tax rate of 106-108% across whole Canton Zurich). I also made a 3a investment to the full CHF 67XX. I have not received any tax forms from the authorities. I have commute costs (GA) and lunch meal costs.

Now questions:

1. Do the quellensteuer assumed deductions already include commute costs (e.g. GA costs) and lunch costs?

2. If I make a simple supplementary correction application to claim deductions for the 3a contribution, will they recalculate my entire tax rate based on the 119% steuerfuss instead of the lower canton averaged rate?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Depends on your actual costs, in Geneva the form clearly states to make sure. If your costs are actually much more than what they typically give you in deductions already, then it’s worth it.
