Filing taxes on B Permit with 3a contribution

How does one go about getting a tax return when one has reduced effective taxable income by contributing to a Pillar 3a?
(income tax already paid at the source at the correct rate, and no other out-of-the-ordinary circumstances)

My googling has come up inconclusive thus far. Thanks.

Nice. Cheers for finding that form. It was unclear to me whether I needed to do a full tax return like a true helvète or if there was, as it turns out is the case, some other simplified form...

Re: Filing taxes on B Permit with 3a contribution

For B permit, you're not required to fill a full declaration, you can fill the simplified one as gbn showed (to get a tax return from pension payments for example)

To my understanding, it's required to request to file a full declaration if you:
a) earn over 120k, or
b) have a substantial amount of worldwide wealth

Whatever that 'substantial' means, I have no idea... I just requested this year for the first time to file a full declaration, due to higher income. They responded and told me they will send me the documents. Before now, I always filed a simple declaration only.

the amount CHF120k is pro rata for a full year. if you are still under the pro rata amount after YOUR time adjustment, then probably not.

The mini declaration form in Basel for those on quellensteuer (WITHHOLDING TAX) is optional and is called Antragsformular für Tarifkorrektur und Rückerstattung der Verrechnungssteuer and can be downloaded from from http://www.steuerverwaltung.bs.ch/st...formulare.html
It allows you to make deductions on a number of things, not just pillar 3a. Included are: charity donations, childcare costs, lunch costs at work.
If you have made any significant charity donations or have kids in daycare, you will get back a significant sum of of money.

I'm below 120k, but so far I've always done the tax return because of the 3rd pillar. This year I can't find the form for the ZH canton. Any of you were able to find it?

Hi!

Do you know if it is required to include your yearly bank account balance when filing for a Quellensteuer tax return? I am using the form linked above (ZH canton).

It's not written anywhere, but I remember having it printed last year...

I think it's only needed if you file a full declaration and therefore declare your worldwide wealth

Hi,
I am on B permit and pay tax at source. If I will submit my tax forms, will my taxes be recalculated for the whole previous year? I mean, if I had no income for a few months, will I get back a part of taxes I paid based on average income per month in a year?

No. The taxes are calculated on the monthly basis and depend on your momentary income. They will not let you get away without paying some money to FCM. TIS

It depends. "Andrius Join Date: Apr 2009"
Tax at source is month by month. Normal taxation is over the annual income, which for purposes of determining the tax rate is extrapolated to a whole year in case you were a resident only for a part of the year.

Or in other words:
If you have been in Switzerland as a resident only during the months you earned money the tax rate is mostly correct. Give or take the usual differences between purely tax at source and normal taxation and doing a full tax return.

If you have been in Switzerland as a resident during the whole year your "tax rate" gets adjusted. Or better said, your income does not get extrapolated to determine the tax rate.

You can still fill in a simplified tax form if you want. You can reduce your taxable income by declaring things like how much you commute, the money you spend on daily meals and some other expenses.

You should at least check out the form and see if any of them apply to you, then speak to a person who knows these things.

No. And even if you have to, they'll tell you so eventually

If he's under 120k pro rated there's no guarantee they'll accept his tax return

These are standard deductions already factored into tax at source rates and don't entitle to a correction

I believe the "simplified" tax return refered to by Lordzolt is a Quellensteuerruckerstattung. Please see my previous post.
If you pay quellensteuer, yes, they do indeed factor some deductions, but if you pay pliilar 3a make charitable donations, these and other things can be recorded in a form and you could get significant tax refunds. I have got several thousand back this year.

Is the form "Antrag für quellensteuerpflichtige Arbeitnehmende auf Neuveranlagung der Quellensteuer 2018" for the ZH canton already available somewhere?

Ok, I think I found it: https://www.steueramt.zh.ch/dam/fina...agung_2018.pdf

Re: Filing taxes on B Permit with 3a contribution

Hi folks, I'd appreciate some recommendation on my specific situation:

I'm on B permit and earned close to but under 120K in full year 2018. Live in Zurich city (hence 119% Gemeindesteuerfuss). Quellensteuer was deducted monthly (based on my read-up, the assumption used for Gemeinde tax is an average tax rate of 106-108% across whole Canton Zurich). I also made a 3a investment to the full CHF 67XX. I have not received any tax forms from the authorities. I have commute costs (GA) and lunch meal costs.

Now questions:

1. Do the quellensteuer assumed deductions already include commute costs (e.g. GA costs) and lunch costs?

2. If I make a simple supplementary correction application to claim deductions for the 3a contribution, will they recalculate my entire tax rate based on the 119% steuerfuss instead of the lower canton averaged rate?

Thanks in advance for any input!
