US taxes - I-407 and returned green card

Hi,

We returned our green cards with the I-407 form to the US embassy in Bern and got it back signed. It had the last day we were in the US in the form. Did anyone else ever do this here? We are non-residents for the rest of the year and only need to pay taxes for US income for the rest of the year. Does anyone here know what happens if my wife visits the US for a few days during the year for work? E.g. is the date we wrote down in the I-407 still the date that counts for the end of our resident status (or better in this case the day the I-407 arrived at the embassy) or would it be updated to the last day of the last visit of the year? We talked to the tax specialists provided by my wife's company but based on other aspects of their answers I doubt their answers and would like to hear if someone else has dealt with this before.

Thanks
