Re: Transfer money to a German account

What about transferring the entire amount into currency fair, exchange the money into Euro and then pay it each week as needed?

The 3 Euro Currencyfair Fee per outgoing transfer on it's own already makes this a bad idea.

But instead of asking us, feel free to read the pricing schedule on these sites, the info is all there.

My dumb “nonsense” is intentional... (so don’t take it personally)

If I’ve learnt anything over the years here is that there is absolutely no point giving people answers to their questions but rather best is to show them how they can figure it out for themselves. Because the answer changes as the inputs to the answer change over time and depends entirely on their individual needs.

The old adage of “give a man a fish and he’ll eat for one day, teach a man how to fish and he’ll eat for a life time” is very much at play here... dear friend

Pay monthly instead to make Paypal's fee a smaller percentage, and use that.

That's very pedagogical and theoretical, but people who ask here want instant answers and solutions to pretty much...everything! And someone else to make the homework for them. These are the times, my friend. :-)

In all fairness, this question didn't need that much postulating. Ef-ers were just nice. Let's keep that spirit up! ;-)

Re: Transfer money to a German account

Have the recipient check her bank's fee structures carefully before deciding. The 0.40 or whatever is your own bank's fee, the recipient's bank can still charge a fee of its own and for SEPA transfers from Switzerland many German banks do. This can be anything up to 5-10eur and is assessed as a separate fee rather than deducted from the transfer amount. Result: you both think it's all fine, you pay for several lessons this way... and then the recipient gets a nasty surprise at the end of the month/end of quarter!

Suddenly my academic approach to this is indeed very relevant

Re: Transfer money to a German account

Are you sure that SEPA would be the best option?
It looks like transferwise has better exchange rate but a fee then.

I would like to transfer 5000€.

How could I know when it's the best time to send money with the best conversion?

Re: Transfer money to a German account

Does anyone know if SEPA is only good for transferring in EURO or if it’s also good to transferring in GBP (to a British bank account)?

There’s another online German teacher who recently moved to London and said he preferred to receive GBP over other currencies..

It´s single EURO payment area, so GBP is a no-go.

Re: Transfer money to a German account

Hi, Transferwise is one of the best options I have seen around. Its cheap, fast and reliable. Most of my friends are using it and are satisfied with it.
