Transfer money to a German account

Anyone knows what typical swiss banks charge for transferring money to a German bank account? I found a language teacher on Skype and she said I could either pay for the lessons by transferring money or PayPal. Because it'll be a very small amount (like 30 euro or so) each time, I wonder if PayPal is the way to go.

Re: Transfer money to a German account

If she accepts to pay the fee PayPal takes from her it's not the worst deal for you, else just use banktransfer, this could normally easily be 5,- but with Sepa it is just a few rappen per transfer.

Re: Transfer money to a German account

I pay absolutely zero for all transfers using SEPA in Euros. I'm at the BCV.

Then it's not a SEPA transfer
I'll have to check.

Non SEPA is more like CHF 5 or 10 or more, but haven't done one in years.

Hm, you can do a SEPA transfer in EUR from your CHF account but I doubt you get charged only a couple of Rappen as the currency conversion will cost a lot more

62 Rappen per transfer of 30 Euro, banks are most often cheaper with these amounts. (or even free)

Given that he wants to transfer only 30,- Euro each week, the bank might be his cheapest option (not to mention the most easy solution)

No they’re not!

More convenient? Possibly... Cheaper? Simply no.

Unless you have a lot of EUR lying around, you will have to do a currenty conversion in any case.

I checked.

UBS charges 30 rappen where some other banks ask 40 rappen or simply nothing (postbank for example), and transferwise asks 62 rappen, Transferwise and UBS both had almost equal conversation rates.

Since when is 62 rappen cheaper than 30 rappen?

How about you come up with some numbers to proof me wrong.

Re: Transfer money to a German account

We use Zücher Kantonal Bank?

I think the german teacher is willing to take the PayPal charges on her side. But Paypal’s Currency exchange rate is obviously pretty bad too.

I don’t know what SEPA is lol..

Re: Transfer money to a German account

SEPA transfer is free with ZKB, there conversation rate is not the best possible, but with these small amounts that makes little diff. ZBK is 25 rappen cheaper than transferwise (with the rates at the moment of posting)

SEPA in short is an agreement to make international transferring towards a Euro account in the SEPA zone easier and cheaper.

Personally I would just use your bank, and could not care if it would save some rappen or the contrary.

We need to agree on the methodology first my dear friend.

WHAT are we comparing?

a) Transfer Fees
b) FX rate spreads
c) a+b
d) c + other hidden / indirect fee(s)

A. I am absolutely not your friend, Nor is it likely I will ever become one.
B. Method? OP needs to get Euro's on a German bank account from his current CHF account at ZKB, in whatever way.
C. Nice that you worked at a bank, but up to now you have failed to provide OP with a cheaper solution than directly transferring from his bank with SEPA.
