i wouldn't recommend having pf as only bank account. i now keep only minimal amounts in pf.
Care to give reasons? I use it as a sole account with no more issues than I had with major banks in the UK.

general unreliability e.g. the transfer issues highlighted here, or the failing ATMs.

I use PostFinance and find them generally fine. (In my experience, Migrosbank were much worse; UBS is maybe a bit better, but sometimes inconvenient and definitely snooty). I have seen PostFinance ATMs run out of money (I've never had a transfer affected[*] and I tend to do a lot, particularly from Estonia...), but that's balanced by the fact that there are so many of them.

Really, all I care about is that the credit card always works, which it does. (Oh wait, that's actually run by UBS, isn't it...)

[*] What I'm saying there is that I never had a transfer that wasn't effected.

You can use any ATM with private account plus? Or is it the PfFinterface to the wider network that is a problem?

Yes you can use any ATM and its free transaction with private account plus. But as far as I remember during the outage, PF cards were not working at other ATM's.

This is the first time I have heard about a transfer issue like this. And other than a weekend of unavailability where they perform a system upgrade, in the last 10 years i have seen around three widespread (as in, all of them at the same time) ATM failures.

It's not a perfect track record, but to say postfinance are "generelly unreliable" is not factually accurate. Plus, I would rather save over a grand a year not paying bank fees at UBS or Credit Suisse for the very occasional blip. The only thing I miss from PF is a Maestro card.

Lets put things in perspective a little... lloyds TSB in the UK had a recent meltdown. https://www.theguardian.com/business...-business-live

stating the reason for not relying solely on PF is due to general unreliability is not the same as saying that PF is generally unreliable!

for something as important as money, i would never rely on just one institution. i also have at least 2 separate credit cards with at least one on visa and one on mastercard.

for me it is a simple precaution.

Re: Postfinance is getting worse

I saw a message when I logged onto PF today: "Individual transfers were rejected or cancelled due to a payment processing disruption. Customers who were affected received an error message. The problem has now been resolved. We kindly ask you to initiate the payments again. We apologize for any inconvenience caused."
