| | Re: Car road/street tax | Quote: | | | | | For now...the market share of vehicles with alternative propulsion in CH (hybrids, pulg-in hybrids, natural gas, and pure battery EV) is 25% this year. Pure battery electric vehicles market share is 6.9% from so far from Jan to Oct 2020, up from 4.2% on 2019 and 1.7% on 2018. https://infogram.com/marktanteile-al...h7k23gnzg0g4xr
So, we could assume the collection of this tax has at least gone down 7% at federal level. Don't know if specific cantons have seen greater tax collection decrease due to higher EV market share. Also, EVs don't pay the 73 rappen fuel tax for road infrastructure. Since the fraction of EVs keeps increasing, at some point EVs will have to pay tax too on one way or another.
I bet 2 beers that when EVs reach 20% of new passenger car sales, some tax changes will come. 2022 or 2023? Not tomorrow but it starts to impact the people buying an EV today. | | | | | I hope to be robo-taxiing in 2023 so happy to pay 1CHF per km all-in with no depreciation, fuel, parking, tax, insurance, vignette, maintenance, tyres, fines, tests, etc.

| | Re: Car road/street tax | Quote: | | | | | Canton SZ for sure has not. While canton ZH taxes based on displacement which results in a zero tax for electric cars, canton SZ uses the power as scaling factor. Guess what that means for a Tesla S with 615 kW. | | | | |
Just saw a Tesla model S with 615kW pays in Schwyz ~1500 CHF per year. https://www.sz.ch/mobilitaet-verkehr...5488-5587-6771
That's ~50% of my annual gasoline costs, a bit less of what I pay in the fuel tax towards road infrastructure. Canton Schwyz is doing things right.

Thanks for all the replies so far. they are very helpful.
based on the replies, is it safe to assume that the road tax for a hybrid car (both electric and fuel based) in ZH canton will be somewhere between 0 (electric car) and amount of road tax for a full fuel based car? I am referring to the same car that is available as hybrid and also in full fuel mode.
cheers

If it's a car with a huge range, maybe they do a crappy 0.9l full fuel model and a 1.6l hybrid, in which case your scenario would probably not be true.
Just plug the numbers into the form and it will tell you.

Hey, there's this vehicle road tax calculator. This is the most precise estimate. https://www.zh.ch/de/mobilitaet/verk...enrechner.html | This user would like to thank Axa for this useful post: | |
