| | Car road/street tax
Is this table what one should apply when registering a car in Geneva canton?
Seems excessive!
for eg 250 KW with 204 CO2 emission would cost 2289 CHF to tax per year? Is this real?
Or is this table for something else..my french isnt up to par yet.
Thanks all

Note: Each canton has it own table based on weight, power, displacement, and/or CO2-emission.

Thanks all | | | | | Yes, exceeding 200g/km CO2 implies the crippling 50% supplement in Geneva. In Canton Vaud (e.g. in Coppet, which is just 15km from the centre of Geneva) the tax for the same vehicle would be less than half that amount. (Assuming that it weighs less than 2500kg...)

Thanks all | | | | | Only if it's newer than 2010 for the 50% suplement:
"Pour les voitures dont la 1ère mise en circulation > 01.01.2010
50 % bonus si CO2 <= 120 g/km
50 % malus si CO2 > 200 g/km "
Of course, you don't need to keep it on the road all year, and tax and insurance are pro-rated.

Thanks all | | | | | according to the table, yes, this could be real.
see it on the positive side: if 2300 CHF taxes are a problem for you, you shouldn't buy such a fast car.

the opposite, in fact - people who have money got there by knowing how to value it. and a 2300 one off expense just to own it is the definition of low value.
i guess you learnt something today.

You started out with "excessive" and "is this real"
Then implying it's good value for money to own the car for a year.
I look forward to many more contradictions. | Quote: | | | | | where do they live ? Dear all,
I am looking for exactly this information for ZH canton. does anyone know if there is such a table available online giving details about the amount of road tax depending on the vehicle (car) type?
also a general question, does an electric car has less road tax than a normal car because it is supposedly less harmful to the environment? obviously there are so many versions of every car these days and I would like to know if buying an electric car means you pay less road tax.
cheers

| | Re: Car road/street tax | Quote: | | | | | Electric vehicles in Canton Zurich pay nothing... | | | | | For now...the market share of vehicles with alternative propulsion in CH (hybrids, pulg-in hybrids, natural gas, and pure battery EV) is 25% this year. Pure battery electric vehicles market share is 6.9% from so far from Jan to Oct 2020, up from 4.2% on 2019 and 1.7% on 2018. https://infogram.com/marktanteile-al...h7k23gnzg0g4xr
So, we could assume the collection of this tax has at least gone down 7% at federal level. Don't know if specific cantons have seen greater tax collection decrease due to higher EV market share. Also, EVs don't pay the 73 rappen fuel tax for road infrastructure. Since the fraction of EVs keeps increasing, at some point EVs will have to pay tax too on one way or another.
I bet 2 beers that when EVs reach 20% of new passenger car sales, some tax changes will come. 2022 or 2023? Not tomorrow but it starts to impact the people buying an EV today.

While canton ZH taxes based on displacement which results in a zero tax for electric cars, canton SZ uses the power as scaling factor. Guess what that means for a Tesla S with 615 kW.
