Turkish Lira is in free fall...Time to take advantage?

With the recent tariffs war between US and Turkey, this seems to have triggered a currency free fall in the Turkish Lira, now reaching an all time low. Time now to take advantage? 1 CHF can buy nearly 75% more Turkish Lira (since start of the year).

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/n...heap-holidays/

I have been to Turkey a number of times over the past few years and find it family friendly in the resort locations (despite the press). What are your thoughts?

Just wondering how I would take advantage as I would need the travel agencies to update prices (but this is not yet happening). Too early?

It's not just holidays, there are some pretty good yacht builders in Turkey. And this might be time to stock up the excellent movie making accessories from Edelkrone.

GBP is rather weak against CHF as well. (No surprises there...) I just bought some electronic music stuff from the UK which was a very nice deal.

Book directly yourself and pay with Euro's when there, Erdogan can say what he wants, and 4 guys burning dollars ain't changing that the Turks love Euro's and Dollars and prefer them above the Lira.

Some stores had big lines this morning when opening up of people wanting to buy the more exclusive products before the prices would be adjusted.

Maybe it is not love that make Turks prefer EUR or USD but the reality that lira always lose.

I had a root canal treatment in June which costed 100 CHF at that time and now it should be around 75 CHF. Here in Zahnarztzentrum I paid 80 CHF just for the check and they quoted 800-1000 CHF.

Re: Turkish Lira is in free fall...Time to take advantage?

I am from Turkey and this title hurts me actually.. someone asking a benefit but of course I support somehow that idea..

As I read some news recently, some Arab and Chinese tourists are shopping in luxury shops like louis vuitton

here is a sample news

https://www.haberturk.com/doviz-artt...101429-ekonomi

but not sure when the companies will update the prices.. so maybe you should go asap because Turkey have a deal with Qatar that will invest Turkey 15 billion US dollars and that news helped the dollar to fall by 7 TL (turkish lira) to under 6 TL (now its like 5.9 TL).

And also as I read, Turkey will trade with China, Russia and Iran with their currency instead of US dollar. For example, USA put extra tax to buy aluminium and steal (the reason is national security as always ) and china has offered to buy aluminium by paying TL. And a huge boycott is going to start soon. Turkish government has decided to not use american products anymore. Usage of turkish products will be supported.. As I see, EU also supports Turkey in this context because they also see that this will damage EU somehow and they do not want to live under US pressure.. I believe that the balance will change.. Because today's USA is acting like a hunger dog and tries to attack everyone.. whatever..

So what I can advice you.. In Turkey, health stuff is also cheap and good. I know that many people go Turkey for dental or eye operations or plastic surgery.. Beside that as speakeron said, Turkey has also yacht builders. If you have enough money you can buy/order one I think that you are a regular person so I do not need to talk about what you can import from Turkey like leather, carpet, nuts etc..

You can also go some touristic places in Turkey.. I advice you Ürgüp-Cappadocia or Pamukkale or if you are interested in old churches you can visit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Saint_Peter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mor_Gabriel_Monastery
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Irene

technology things are not so cheap in Turkey.. I think you will not get so much benefit from that.. So if you have any question, I would like to answer..

I'm actually going to Istanbul in September but by chance, I booked it before this meltdown started happening.

I'll certainly be doing a bit of shopping.... mostly food products and spices though probably
