Defer a 2nd pillar

A friend is eligible to retire 3 years early. He would like to leave and find another part-time job with another company (he has an offer).

When I left my employer they gave me the option to defer receiving my pension, which I did for almost two years. It resulted in a lower penalty for early retirement.

Iím not certain if this was a feature of my individual pension plan, or if it is something built into the law.

Does anyone know if it part of Swiss law

Re: Defer a 2nd pillar

It says here you can defer up to 5 years after retirement age.

I think there was a thread recently on that?

You will be ahead on cash received in hand for about the first 8-10 years if you take the money earlier. Of course if you take the lump sum it will be smaller but you have 2 years to make it grow to catch up. You probably pay less tax over your lifetime starting earlier, rather than later.

The legal minimum pension is defined by law, but thats only on about 60k a year of earnings.

Re: Defer a 2nd pillar

Thanks roegner. From the English page it appears that the pension plan has to permit it. Iíll tell him he needs to discuss this with his pension people.

Quote:
If your pension schemeís regulations provide for postponed retirement, you also have the option to postpone the payment of your pension until 70 at the latest. Contact your pension scheme for information about what you need to do.
I did do a search for deferring pensions to no avail.

Re: Defer a 2nd pillar

The details depend on the pensioin fund's internal regulation, ask them (I'd bypass H&R if possible).
