Taxes in Vaud on scholarship/fellowship

Dear,

I am supposed to file taxes in Vaud. I got http://www.snf.ch/en/funding/careers...s/default.aspx, which they want to tax. I asked about that HR at EPFL and have been told that due to its nature the fellowship should not be taxed.

I am looking for some rules that specify what kind of visiting-abroad funding are taxable and which are not. I guess it boils down to the nature of those funds, but I could not find specifics on the web. Do you know where I can find those rules?

Thanks.

Best,

Thanks for your reply.

That link points to how SNSF sees that fellowship. What I was wondering about is the nature of fellowships taxed by Vaud. For instance, given the nature of that fellowship as described on the link you provided, is Vaud supposed to tax or not?

Re: Taxes in Vaud on scholarship/fellowship

Did you have to pay taxes at the end?

I found this website, which claims that these fellowships are only taxable in Aarau, Baselland, St. Gallen and Zurich, but their info might be obsolete: https://www.myscience.ch/living/moving_out_of_ch/taxes

Re: Taxes in Vaud on scholarship/fellowship

Hi. Unfortunately, I had to pay. The same fellowship for someone who did a PhD at ETH was not taxable. From what I understood, canton Vaud taxes more types of fellowships than Zurich does.

One of the things that was annoying with Vaud taxation office is that they taxed me like I lived in Switzerland all the time. For instance, they didn't even want to allow me to report two insurances that I payed during that period (one in the US and one in Switzerland). The same goes for any kind of relocation costs, which in general are not negligible.

Good luck with them!
