Question about tax now I have C permit

My C permit finally arrived today, after an 18-month wait! I have paid tax-at-source for the past 6 years on my B permit, including all of this year to date - will I now have to file a tax declaration at the end of this year, even though there's only a month left? I haven't a clue about any of this so any input would be helpful. I will of course also be talking to my HR department.

Thanks.

Re: Question about tax now I have C permit

Yes, you have to declare as your HR will have to stop deducting your taxes.

And congrats on your C permit!

AFAIK you will be normally taxed for the year.

In that case your tax at source payments will be used as a prepayment. Depending on your situation you might get a refund or have to pay some extra tax.

Re: Question about tax now I have C permit

Thanks everyone. At this point, I was hoping the C permit would arrive early in 2019 so I wouldn't have to worry about taxes until next year - but I guess I should be happy it finally arrived at all

Re: Question about tax now I have C permit

Ordinary taxation begins the month following the month that the C permit was received. Below excerpt from para. 161 of SSK document "Die Besteuerung an der Quelle":

"Mit deren Erhalt unterstehen sie ab dem folgenden Monat dem ordentlichen Veranlagungsverfahren, und zwar gleich wie die übrigen in der Schweiz wohnhaften Steuerpflichtigen."
