Online stock trading brokers?

Are there any Swiss-based, reasonably priced brokers that provide online trading for Swiss and international stocks, ETFs and other financial instruments? I am looking for a service like Interactive Brokers, with very low commissions and no custody costs, also English-language trading interface is essential. I have seen what UBS offers, but it appears very pricey to me.

This question has been asked many times. Spend a little time searching the forum.

PS: for a first post you could also at least make an attempt to be polite, say "hi" and "please" before expecting people to go and find already-existing information for you.

Good question. My impression was that the required treatment of dividends for Swiss residents is somewhat peculiar, even for international stocks, and that local brokers would surely do it right (e.g. withhold a portion of dividends).

Hi there Richdog. The idea of what is polite differs across people and sub-cultures, for example greetings in a forum post are considered spam/offtopic in some versions of netiquette. The quality of financial services fluctuates fairly rapidly, so I felt was a good idea to ask for fresh information. I hope that solves some of the concerns that you may have as a moderator of a newcomer’s first posting

Without doing a search, how did you even know how recently or of what quality the previous discussions were?

Swiss Brokers withhold 35% v US Brokers 15%, US Brokers charge less. Withholding tax is refunded & then you pay actual tax if you fill in a tax return properly & have a high enough salary.

Re: Online stock trading brokers?

I use a reputable English broker that can handle all types of instruments across multiple markets. I also have an account with IG Index but this is for more specific trades.

Be careful with online brokers as while they are cheap, we all know cheap can often be expensive. However it all depends on what you want to do, and if you can give a bit more information I could maybe help you better. For example, are you simply holding a portfolio of shares which you add to or trade occasionally. Or are you a trading frequently in equities, commodities, options etc?

Just use IB if you'll have >100k USD or will spend 10 USD per month in trading fees

Look at Schwab or other US brokers if not

pretty much agree.

schwab if infrequently trading and looking at mainly US securities

IB if you're investing >$100k, trade regularly or in small amounts, don't mind a more difficult interface and want to trade a wider range of securities.
