VaudTax and UN employees

Hi,
The tax office in Nyon (canton de Vaud) told me that I should list my UN agency wife (EU but not Swiss) as salariée and show her employer as her UN agency (which in the Vaud Tax system is shown as an international agency and impots a la source). When I input her salary in the VaudTax tax software, I cannot find where the salary is supposed to be subtracted away as we are not supposed to be taxed on the UN salary.
We do not get a certificat de salaire from the UN system so there is no calculation of the amount of tax that was taken at the source and anyways this is not a known element in the UN pay system.
Any experience with VaudTax and international civil servants (fonctionnaires)?
Cheers, C

Re: VaudTax and UN employees

In Vaud the incremental tax rate is calculated on the sum of both partners income, but is not applied to her salary.

I think you need to fill out the paper form. Perhaps see a tax expert at least the first time around.

And International agencies will issue a salary notice, on request. You just need to ask for it. This is not new, its been in effect for just over 1 years.

Welcome to Vaud.

Yes, when I encountered cases where VaudTax doesn't treat the situation appropriately, I used the software to prepare the declaration, but printed it out instead of submitting it electronically. This allowed me to write explanatory notes on the papers before sending them to the tax authorities by post. This worked fine for me.

I can’t edit my post. It should say this has been in effect for over 10 years.

This is not true. Is your spouse a UN staff member (i.e. not consultant, nor individual contractor?). If yes, then she is exempt from paying any local taxes, however her payslip is surely available and will indicate 'staff assessment' (which is an effective difference between gross and net salary). This 'staff assessment' is in fact the tax that is deducted from the gross salary.

Not sure how this works in Vaud and what you need to report, but surely she should inform her own administration/HR and if any issue, raise with with Swiss PM in Geneva.

Re: VaudTax and UN employees

So I went to the Nyon tax office yesterday with some screenshots of my work in their tax software VaudTax. As before, their expert told me to list my wife as Fonctionnaire Intl (UN agency), salariée, and place of work Genève. Then, in the revenue section, to enter 0 (zero). Also, that I did not have to list her fortune for her individual accounts and that for our joint accounts (only half of the amount). Our home and the difference between the estimation fiscal and our mortgage must be shown on the return. I forgot to ask about other elements of her fortune (for example, her automobile, her jewelry) but I will check before I file. So, in the end, my tax bracket is not influenced at all by her UN agency salary. This contradicts some of what was posted earlier on this thread.
