Re: N26 is coming to Switzerland!

It would be good if it came to Switzerland. However, will it have a CH IBAN? I have noticed that for all of Europe, the IBAN is a DE IBAN no matter what country you are in. This makes it a bit hard to. pay for things like Apple products or Netflix when not based in Germany as most products are IBAN related now. I have had my N26 based in Portugal, Italy and Spain but with the same IBAN number. My partner is based in Italy but also has a DE IBAN. I guess the UK N26 has a UK IBAN? I guess it has a DE IBAN because it's backed by the German financial services and its all the same currency too.

Re: N26 is coming to Switzerland!

I've had a normal account and then Black account for 3yrs now. Not 1 problem. Girlfriend has the normal account and loves it too. Its how banking should be.

These new app based banks are good. I have Monzo for the UK too. I do make sure i have a normal bank account too just in case but to be honest I don't need them as i use N26 all the time.

Do you use it as a primary account ie. for salary/paying bills? Or do you still use a traditional bank for other needs?

I have a revolut one and I mostly use it as a travel/digital wallet/transfer money to friends abroad (not so much in CH as im using TWINT more as more and more people have that now)

Re: N26 is coming to Switzerland!

I use it as my main EU/Euro account as does my partner. I do have the black account which is 5.90 per month but I get unlimited withdrawals fee
free in any country. My partner has the normal account and only has 5 withdrawals for free outside of the Euro Zone and then I think it’s 1.7% mark up. I think the fee has gone up now to 9.90e a month but if you don’t withdraw much then the free version is fine. I have a UBS account and to be honest using the V-Pay card in the euro zone is pretty cheap. Conversion rate is fine, almost XE rate.

Oh, my partner has her salary paid in to her N26. She finds it really good as the 3D secure text message system isn’t the same as normal banks. N26 use Face ID or Touch ID via the app to authenticate transactions only sometimes which is great as most normal banks need a test message sent with a pin to input online. Nightmares when you change SIM cards as much as we do.

Re: N26 is coming to Switzerland!

Great! glad that N26 is here. Wonder how the DE IBAN will work here? thats the only flaw so far in the system. I struggle to make direct debits in Portugal and Italy with my N26 due to this factor. Most countries only accept their native IBANs.

Only Euro accounts at the moment however. No CH-IBAN, no accounts in CHF.

Re: N26 is coming to Switzerland!

So, I get paid in CHFs (into UBS) and use VPay/Twint in Switzerland. When I shop online or not in CHFs I use my Revolut card. What's the advantage of an N26 account ?

It would mean you can keep money in Euros I guess is one advantage. Exchange a lot of CHF to Euro when the exchange rate is favourable for example and there you have your money in a bank account for when you need it for shopping. Don't N26 also provide a card for payment in shops?

Probably not much at the moment. Its all personal preference. I dislike the Revolut app and experience so I went with N26, but then my needs ar probably different. As long as you are using Transferwise for transfers and a card that offer mid market rates like N26, Revolut, Monzo for UK, etc.... then you're fine!

Very safe. Not much to tell really, does what it says on their website! It’s a bank account so you get a German “DE” IBAN, this applies to all EU & Swiss accounts, not sure on UK or US. But yeah, it’s fine, app is good, TransferWise is built in to the system like others so transferring money is simple, cheap and super quick. It’s a free account so not much to loose. Iv used it all over the world and not had any problems, Iv had the black account which I think is now the “you” account but Iv now gone down to the free version as I didn’t need the extras.
