[Tax Return] Professional training costs - deductible?

Hi, one more problem during filling my tax return on PrivateTax - for some reason the app put ahead deductions of 2000 CHF in the section of Berufsauslagen form (Occupation Expenses), Ziffer 3: Weiterbildungs- und Umschulungskosten.

I found that you can deduct 3% of your Net salary as training costs, min. of 2000 CHF, max 4000 CHF.

We were living in Zurich only from December 2018, so only one month in 2018, and I didn't have any professional training in 2018, aside of training at my workplace, nothing external though.

Is this something everybody can deduct (as the app filled this point automatically?), or is it only applicable if you had a training worth 2000CHF and you have a receipts?

Sorry if the question is dumb, it looks obvious - you should have had a training to deduct the cost, but I'm confused why the PrivateTax deducted this amount "itself"

Thank you in advance for your help, you have been really helpful in case of tax returns to me

In Zug you can deduct up to 12000 of training expenses, for example the annual cost of an MBA degree. It has to be related to your work somehow though.

I doubt Zurich is any different but don't have a link.

It was is known in German as a Pauschale (English: Lump sum) that one is allowed to deduct per year. Basically one simply takes the 3% or in your case 3% / 12. Trust the app, it knows best.

Related question: my wife is studying Masters in Uni. Basel, and we're living in Zurich. Can we deduct the cost of GA for commuting to go to University? The guidelines mention only commute from home to work. Does that include home to place of study?
