Swiss national working remote for foreign company, help?

Hello friends,

I'm a Swiss citizen who's never lived in Switzerland. Currently I work remotely for an online non-EU client doing research, and I would love to keep this going while I move to Switzerland and learn the language and culture.
I am happy to fulfill any obligations, I am just very confused as to what they would be.

In the ideal situation, I move there, invoice my client, and pay the local tax authority. Simple. But it looks like it will be much more complicated than that.

From what I can tell my options would be.
* Setup a sole-trader entity, invoice my clients as normal, and pay all of the obligations and taxes myself, which appears to be ~10% higher in taxes than otherwise, so I would be looking at a total tax rate of ~25%. Not bad.
* Setup a GmbH, pay the 20k CHF opening fee, deal with all the additional paperwork, probably also looking at a total tax/fee rate of ~25%
* Setup as self-employed, except I will only be working for 1-2 clients, and they will all be foreign/non-EU. Would this route even be an option?
* Other?

Anyways, some insight would be appreciated. I am hoping to make the move to Switzerland as soon as I have a somewhat clear path to working remotely for non-EU clients as a Swiss citizen and resident.

Cheers and thanks.

The 20k are no fee, they're shareholder equity. AFAIK they can be used to pay for the setup costs. Search the forum for more detailed info on setup costs if you use a service, taxes and notary fees.

I don't see why not. The only potential issue is that the tax office may classify you as being employed rather than self-employed in some form or other, IIRC they expect at least 3 clients. The best would probably be to enquire beforehand with the tax office of your future residence.

Thanks for the info.
Do you know what some of the differences would be if I am classified as employed (by a foreign entity) rather than being self-employed?
Ideally I'm just looking for the simplest way to issue invoices, get paid, and live there.
