Paying Swiss bills without a Swiss bank account...

Recently moved back to the US, and got the US treatment from my Swiss bank even though I still have a sizeable mortgage with them. They close my checking account and of course now that our C-permits are revoked we cannot get any other bank account as a non-Swiss citizen with a US green card.

I still have bills to pay as our house is not sold yet. Most of them we get the orange payment slip. Other than calling each of the 20ish companies I still get bills from and asking for their IBAN, and then being hit with $30 fees/transfer is there any alternative out there? We considered asking a friend to pay these bills online and transfering the money to their bank account, but we don't want to burden them...

Have a bump since this was posted in the middle of the night.

I'm wondering if Revolut might be an option but as I don't have an account with them I'll leave it to the experts.

The cheapest by far would be via a friend. Transfer an amount to him and ask him to handle the bills and pay for a nice restaurant as compensation.

Revolut is probably not an option as it requires a bank account and declaring the same to IRS....

I've paid some bills in Switzerland using the Transferwise borderless account. It takes about 3 days, assuming the funding source is an ACH transfer from a US bank account.

Re: Paying Swiss bills without a Swiss bank account...

My son was over in Basel a few weeks ago to visit friends and had to go to the emergency clinic. Got the Orange Slip yesterday from the hospital via USPS. I really wish there was a credit card option...

I went the friend route. Revolut gives you a CHF account but it is UK based, and if I transfer money to Switzerland it is a foreign payment...It is not a Swiss bank account.

Re: Paying Swiss bills without a Swiss bank account...

Revolut is NOT a bank account, it is essentially a pre-paid credit card. What I would do is ring up your mortgage provider and ask for their direct baking IBAN and codes plus your personal reference code. You can then transfer money from the US to them directly and they can identify your deposit with your reference code. Set up a standing order with yours US bank each month. Done! You could use TransferWise service to transfer the money to them each month, saving on fees from the US, but i assume the boarderless account is similar to Revolut
