Best way to get Euros

I ordered 1800 euro worth of stuff from a shop in Germany and am wondering what is the best way to pay when I go to the shop in Germany to collect it?

I could withdraw euros here from an ATM, go into the bank to withdraw euros from my euro account, pay by credit card or debit card?

1, 3 and four will all involve a fee and an exchange rate spread. Seeing as you already have euros I would say 2 was your best option.

In this case, best to use a revelut or transferwise card.

If Revolut actually works. Don't rely on it!

When didn‘t it work for you?

Have mine now for more than a year and never a problem (US nor Europe)

Some people may have had no problems, agreed. But many have: https://www.englishforum.ch/3088283-post628.html

Don´t know if it is just me (as I do not have a Twitter account) but the bad tweets are from April 2018 and earlier?

Re: Best way to get Euros

Possibly roegner, but try checking them out on google maps, they barely muster a 2.8, which is pretty poor. Many recent comments. More and more people being scammed, cloned, blocked etc.
People at the end of their tether.

Revolut, Westferry Circus, London, UK is the one.

They were alright for a while and yes having the card was handy. But they are not safe and their customer support is almost zero. You don't realise how bad it is until you yourself have the problem and have to deal with them.

Well, 328 reviews which are 50/50 split between bad and good it's not very indicative of a company that deals with the money of 6million customers, wouldn't you say?

If you look onto their community site there are many reports of issues but also many many reports of issues being sorted. I contacted their support via the app several times always got a nice and pleasant experience. I also have many friends that use it regularly and never heard of any issue.

But true, I would also not advise to treat it for more than what it is - a prepaid credit card. Put some money in, spend it abroad, done. In this case - exactly what the OP wants. Myself I use it pretty much regularly, just not keeping a lot of cash on it.

regardless I would not go to pay 1800€ at a shop with plastic and bring only one credit card, so even if it doesn't work he should still have a backup.

Revolut is a debit card.

Revolut is a debit card.
But functions as a prepaid credit card, as it can be used for pre-authorizations. True debit cards such as the PostFinance card don't have that function.

With prepaid credit cards like Revolut you have the right to a chargeback appeal.

I would be interested to know if you can request a chargeback for a payment made with a PostFinance card for example.

Some of Revolut cards are marked debit, some aren't. I have two in front of me, one is marked mastercard debit prepaid, the other visa pre-paid, but not debit.

Re: Best way to get Euros

Well I went into my local UBS branch today to ask about taking out 2500 euro from my euro account. I was told that as there was a fee for withdrawing cash from my euro account, that I would be better off taking the money from my CHF account. So I did and paid 2800 CHF to get 2500 euro.

On Revolut 2500 euro would have costed 2715.15 CHF at the time I am writing this

Their is always a fee to take foreign bank notes, it is called "disagio" somewhere around 1.5-3% usually, depending on the currency.

Banks have to "buy" foreign banknotes, so their is a fee involved, plus their profit
