Well then, which banks would you recommend? As it is a standard request maybe you can tell OP which ones.
The OP is not looking for a solution for a property just over the border. This has already been answered and the discussion has moved on. Please read the thread.

I have. But as you say it is standard it may help others.

The request in border regions with the vast numbers of cross-border workers that Switzerland has could be considered as pretty much standard. Several banks have ceased giving new mortgages on properties not in Switzerland, but this has nothing to do with whether one has millions or not. Nor, I believe, would it be because of extra admin. I didn't see any extra admin when we bought over the border. It's just a slightly different procedure.
The key is to find a bank that will do it.
If you read the posts you will see I have suggested a bank for another person posting.

Clientis also politely declined to engage on overseas mortgage.
Luzern Kantonalbank also declined:

"Unfortunately for my understanding there is no bank in Switzerland which does such a mortgage-business abroad because of all the unknown facts there (f.e. the law, the price level in you country, the process of going into the Land register, …..). "

Sorry to hear that. Although their comment is merely their opinion and not fact. Keep us posted regarding SHKB please.

Re: Swiss bank leanding for real estate in EU country

Sorry can't be bothered to read the whole thread.

Here's my tuppence. I have a mortgage on a UK property, with Habib bank in Zurich. Mortgage is in GBP.

Didn't seem to be a problem at all, in fact, their bigger problem was more recently getting a mortgage in CH.

Good to hear. But is your income (or the majority of it) in GBP?

No, primary income is in CHF. I'm an existing client of Habib from before moving to CH though, and have accounts in USD, GBP and CHF there.

Property is buy-to-let if it makes any difference.

So with the weak pound / strong franc, your mortgage has steadily become less expensive for you whilst earning in CHF. That's good. Of course the risk is always that it can also go the other way, but right now you're lucky.

May I ask whether you are being charged UK mortgage interest rates or Swiss rates.

No bank is going to lend at UK rates when the BoE base rate is +0.75% and the SNB rate is -0.75%. They would be losing money on it.

Interesting. When did you takeout that mortgage if you don’t mind?

Re: Swiss bank leanding for real estate in EU country

To conclude my experience of seeking a mortgage from a Swiss bank for EU property: No one biting. none of the banks even engaged to study my profile. In most cases we promptly arrived at a very polite Nein / Non.
