Hi everyone,

How much do I need to earn a month to be able to get a credit card? I only have a small part time job so I donít earn a huge amount.

Many thanks

I am not sure about the exact amount, however assuming you are married and your spouse has a regular job, (s)he can apply as a primary applicant mentioning the combined household income (for a higher credit card limit).
You can then get an add-on card.

Re: Credit card applications

I think it all depends on the limit you're aiming for. They are bound by law not to admit anyone who would risk being over indebted. I'd say probably 25% percent of your monthly income.

Also, if you are relatively new to the country a bank may want you to secure the card by freezing from your account exactly the amount they have granted as credit limit.

Re: Credit card applications

If you're wanting to shop online or such like, and aren't after credit, then you can get a credit card with a zero limit. You just have to charge it up from your account.

Re: Credit card applications

It depends. You're obviously able to look after yourself, and provided you have a clean credit history, there's no reason why you cannot get a card, perhaps only for a low limit to begin with but that can be increased over time if you make the regular payments.

Perhaps start with a Manor card which will help build history and are fairly easy to obtain.
