Taxation - transports

Hello

i'm about to take job far away (more than 2hrs commute), in a quite expensive Canton (taxwise).
Therefore I want to keep my residency here (zurich) and commute on weekends (so i will have a second flat next to my job).
I'm evaluating car vs train as GAs are quite expensive.
I've read that I can only deduct auto expenses if the departure/arrival is more than 1km away from a public transporation stop or if the car saves me 1hr.
It's not the case, but i wanted to check if those rules are really strict and if I would be able to deduct car expenses to do this weekly commute.

Thank you

Re: Taxation - transports

Saving one hour is looked at fairly strictly in some cities. And in Zurich you can only deduct 3k CHF (I think) for the car so you could end up with a tax loss. Earlier you could deduct the whole amount......

Get your employer to tick the box you need a car for work or would sometimes work too late to get home. I deducted 404CHF a day when working in Geneva & living in ZH. I deducted 18- 25k a year for motoring, 5 years running.

The law has now changed and their is a limit in a lot of cantons, GE & VD being two of these.

The French cantons are not tax friendly, which is why I stayed in ZH. About 40% less tax before the high deductions making my ultimate tax bill tiny.
