Question about pillar 2 contributions - deadline?

Anyone know the latest date prior to retirement age that you can still make contributions to Pillar 2? I received my C permit the end of 2018 and was advised that there was no point in contributing prior to that as I would not get any tax benefit (as I did not do tax returns on permit B). Subsequently I decided not to make any additional contributions. Now that I'm within a few months of retirement age (although will NOT be retiring for a while yet - at least another year), I'm rethinking this. But maybe there's a deadline I've already missed? I understand from a colleague who has already passed 64 that you have to start taking payments from pillar 2, even if you're still working.

Obviously I will check with my pension provider, but just wondered if anyone had any info. Thanks!

Re: Question about pillar 2 contributions - deadline?

I retired earlier this year and still made a contribution to my 2nd pillar. For me it was principally to deduct from tax for this year, but everyone will have different motivations.

Someone gave you the wrong information.

Even on permit B and tax at source you can make voluntary contributions to pillar 2 and get a tax refund. To get your tax benefit you must fill in the relevant form (Can be requested from your cantons tax office) and claim a recalculation of the tax at source (be aware of the deadline!).

Note: During your first 5 years of stay your potential annual voluntary contributions are limited to max. 20% of the insured income.

https://en.comparis.ch/umzug-schweiz...ueckerstattung

To get the best tax advantages you might spread out the voluntary contributions over several years.

You most recent pension statement should show how much if any you can still buy into your pension.
