Credit card deposit required by bank

I just got my B permit after 3 years of G one.
I used to have a Mastercard from my Swiss bank and i was told that, since i was a commuter, I had to leave a deposit for the top up amount of my credit card.
The bank now says that i still need to wait for another year of B permit in order to free my deposit.
Is this common with other banks as well? In alternative what credit card do you suggest?

Thanks! :)

Yes it is quite normal. You could try Corner Card but I suspect they will have the same rule.

Both Migros and Coop have credit cards. Try them.

It may depend on the volume of money moving back and forth onto your account regularly.

When I arrived to Lausanne 9 years ago (B permit), I was brought to UBS (now I know I shouldn't have gone there, it's too expensive...), and they issued my credit card without holding back any kind of deposit.

If you hold a credit card issued by the same bank which provides your checking account, you won't normally have to secure your credit card with collateral. If you get a credit card from a third-party card issuer, then securing your line of credit is fairly standard as a C permit holder because the chance that you will leave Switzerland with unpaid card debt is higher.

Which bank would you recommend now?

Probably PostFinance or the cantonal bank available in your location. (Combined with a Migros or Coop credit card, if it's not provided in the "low-cost package" of the bank.)

I used to pay like 20 CHF per month to UBS (OK, it included 2 debit and 2 credit cards, and a savings account as well), which is too much, comparing to other options.

If you have 25k and a saving account at Postfinance you pay nothing at all.

I think you are allowed to make few transfers each month but please ask Postfinance how many.

If you want a card, it costs 30 Francs and when it expires, they give you a new one, for free.

I was afraid they will ask 5 Francs each month starting January 2019 but in my case, there is no fee at all.

"Sparkonto", this is what I have.

I pay 10 to UBS for the same. I would also change but just haven't got round to it.

ZKB didn't want to give my female Polish co-worker a credit card right away.

She was furious ;-)

Was let go in the probation period though, so ZKB was onto something.
Or just a case of a broken clock being right twice a day.
