Car import from NL to CH when moving - should I pay tax?

Hello,

I read some information about importing vehicles to the Netherlands.

https://www.autoscout24.ch/de/c/d/in...s-autos?a=1238

Been living in NL for 3 years and moving to Zürich very soon. I want to bring over my Audi A3.

I see there is a 4% import tax, and an 8% VAT to pay when importing. My common sense tells me, since I can prove I paid VAT in NL, I won't pay that and will only pay 4% import tax.

Can anyone confirm that? Or am I getting it wrong?
Also, 4% of what? Is there some official evaluation index the tax authorities look at?

Thank you,
Ariel

How long will you have owned it before arriving?

Tom

If you owned it 6 months or longer you can bring it free of duties and tax into Switzerland, (just some likely small costs for getting it registered here which should be easy if the car is original and not modded or has a ton of cheap weird branded parts), if not you have to pay everything which makes it not worth it financially to bring an Audi from the Netherlands to Switzerland.

Dutch VAT and Swiss VAT are completely separated issues, and Switzerland is no EER country so you also can't get remaining BPM back.

In general cars are much more expensive in the Netherlands, so do check what you would have to pay to buy a car you please here, and what you could get for your Audi in the Netherlands.

As your moving/relocating special provisions apply. Please read the information in English provided by Swiss customs:
