Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

Ok, so our tax accountant has confirmed this, so its not really a questions, I just wanted to vent to others: How can it take two years to review tax returns and issue a bill or a refund?!?!

The lady in our tax office was shocked that I was shocked it could take this long.

That's it. Thanks for listening.

I've worked for clients in both the UK and Ireland where it has taken even longer...

It's because they only work on tax returns between 3pm and 5pm every other Thursday. With a break for z'vieri, of course.

Really? I've always got my refunds there within the month, 6 weeks at a push.

Re: Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

Took until mid 2019 for me to get my tax refund from 2016 tax year.

And cost far more in tax lawyer fees fighting the stupid arguments of the tax authorities plus providing the same info in 2 different formats, than I got back.

It takes how long it takes. Whoever said tax was fair?

Regards

Ian

Only 2 years, what do you want a rush job, Switzerland always seemed to take ages to do the simplest of jobs.

Re: Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

We have found that getting a deferral to submit in October means we get a judgement by the end of the year. Last year (2018) this happened despite their request for documents (which now can be submitted on-line).

Not in kanton Zurich :-)

I always submit by the end of September and on average I get an answer 2 years later.

Re: Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

I’m in Vaud. I usually send my tax form by the end of February and get the final return by April at the latest. We can now do everything online, including sending documents.

Re: Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

Yes, but when they take the taxes they take it immediately, they dont wait 1,2, ...5 years.

When it has to give you a refund then it takes ages.
Very fair play system

Yes, sometimes they do take five years to send you the bill.

I got the bills for my 2013-2017 taxes all in 2018-2019.

Re: Two years for Tax Return Review and Refund?!?!?!?!

In my village it takes about a full year from the day I mail the return until the final calculation arrives (invoice or refund, doesn't seem to make a difference).

My local tax office is usually faster processing refunds than demands.
