Quellensteuer - tax deductions - commute

Dears,

I heard it might be possible to deduct one's commuting costs from Quellensteuer (B permit, Kanton Zug).

Can anyone confirm/deny that?

Many thanks,

Assumed deductions are probably 10-12,000 a year, commuting is already covered in the rate you pay.

Is it still that high? They capped it in a lot of Kantons

Medical insurance, Travel to work, Lunch at work, Training costs most are capped.

If you look at the tax payable for someone earning 8k a month on quellensteur & 8k normal tax you can see the person on quelensteuer pays substantially less, drop the salary to about 7k on normal tax & the no's are close.

Correct, deductions are capped but still worth it.
Make sure to be able to prove your expenses buy keeping justificatives.

Re: Quellensteuer - tax deductions - commute

Here the Canton ZG form to request a recalculation of tax at source due to extra expenses or not applied deductions (like pillar 2 or 3a payments).
https://www.zg.ch/behoerden/finanzdi...rkor-2020/view

It must be filed before March 31st 20XY+1, where 20XY is the tax year for which you request a recalculation.

As you can see work related travel expenses are only listed for cross border commuters.

On a B permit no requirement to justify anything, deductions are assumed in the tax payable.

Re: Quellensteuer - tax deductions - commute

Just for general information. In Kanton Zurich the work related deductions are a lump sum equal to 10% of the gross income (so for 100k income, 10k are work related deduction). If you have less than 10k work deductions, do not bother. Of course 2a, 3a, childcare etc... are separate.

You may find a previous post of mine where I discourage applying for work related deductions it these are less than 10% of the gross income. The reason for that is that they would use the actual declared value insterad of the lump sum, therefore increasing your income. Example: if income is 100km the lump sum is 10k. If you only 6k of discounts, your income is increased by the difference of 4k and quellensteuer recalcutated. They did that to us in 2015, still they did not in 2016. Later I found out that there was a case in court where this practice was deemed not OK. in german
