Car taxation >> Hybrids. Canton Vaud

Hi all

I might be buying a new car in the near future. .
We live in canton Vaud and I am aware of their taxation based on horsepower and weight of car.
Also they mention a 75 pct discount of the tax in case of a lower CO2 than 120 gr per km.
My question is as follows, how do they tax hybrids car that have a 'normal' engine and an also support by battery (electric mode)? These hybrids normally don't have a huge range in the electric mode (say 60-100 km).
So it's ideal if you use the car a lot for short trips obv as one can completely rely on the battery.

But obviously when we would drive a bit further than we drive on the 'normal' engine.

Re: Car taxation >> Hybrids. Canton Vaud

The CO2 numbers are measured and determined during the standardized emission test cycle which must be done for the cars type approval. This is done once with a single car and the result applies to all cars of the same type/model.

You can see the CO2 emission and fuel consumption on the cars spec sheet. The emission test cycle is rather short, which heavily favors hybrids. In real life fuel consumption and CO2 emission are much higher, not only with hybrids but also for regular cars. One reason is that the test cars are driven in a way which are not applicable to real life. For example they are never floored during the test/

Go on the SAN.vd.ch website and all will be revealed

You will need the homologation number from the Grey card or the seller, position 18 or 24

Fairly new Prius, 130 CHF annually. Meanwhile, our 2nd car (Also a hybrid but heavier and higher C02 - 1000 CHF)

I think there are a variety of variables that enter into calculating the cantonal tax apart from being a hybrid

In Vaud it is based on weight and power:

plus the 75% rabate if CO2 emission is bellow 120 g/km
