Return in multiple cantons

Hi all, just wondering if someone could give me some advice on this.

Last year I moved to Switzerland in January.

I lived in Kanton Schwyz, Zurich(Horgen) and now Glarus in temporary places while I found a permanent one.

I have had the quellensteuer, and a fairly lengthy commute and my income is under 75k CHF per year.

My thought was that because the gemeindes I have been registered to are all LOWER tax rates than the cantonal average, that I could file a return and get some money back as well as deduction for commute to work. My question is, how do I file a return in 3 cantons? Is this possible? The folks in Glarus told me to file one for each but in the end will it be worth it or is my salary low enough that the difference between quellensteuer will be negligible? Ive been unable to find a general calculator to approximate the difference.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Return in multiple cantons

No, the general rule is that you file your tax return for the whole year in the Kanton/Gemeinde where you are resident on Dec 31st. There's no facility for dividing the year up between different residency periods.

Cantons do have some cross-communication, for example if you're registered to live in one while spending all week in another, but even there you'll be taxed in your home Kanton and they will deal with any adjustments with the other. And I don't think you'll see any refund, just as you wouldn't be asked to pay the difference if your weektime place was a higher rate than the main, weekend one.
